A body panel mount antenna, for generally mounting in a metal panel of an automobile, is provided. The antenna includes a radiator whip and a mounting assembly and is particularly suitable for use in the frequency range of over 1000 MHz. The mounting assembly provides support for the radiator whip and comprises an electrically conductive conically shaped member. A base for anchoring the antenna to a metal panel is also provided. The base and mounting assembly are attachable through an opening in a metal panel in such a way that the conically shaped member is in continuous positive contact with the metal panel. The contact between the conically shaped member and the metal panel causes the metal plate to act as a ground plane for the antenna.

Body panel mount antenna

A rotatable antenna is disclosed in which a radiator and matching network comprise a contiguous electrically conductive spring wire. The matching network comprises a coil extending generally perpendicular to the radiator. A 50 ohm coaxial cable has its ground conductor electrically connected to an electrically conductive sleeve which overlies the coil while the main conductor of the coaxial cable is tapped to the coil so that the matching network substantially matches the radiator impedance to the transmission line impedance. The matching network is rotatable with respect to a mounting member so that the radiator becomes rotatable about an axis that is generally perpendicular to the radiator.

Rotatable antenna and integral, shielded impedance matching network

An antenna connector communicates with antenna input/output circuitry of a transmitter/receiver such as a portable telephone. A length of conductive cable is provided with a connector for physical connection to the transmitter/receiver. The same connector is adapted for spaced, electronic connection with the input/output circuitry using at least one of induction and capacitance without a connecting conductor. The other end of the cable is adapted for conductive connection with an antenna. Thus, a non-invasive, removable connection is provided between an antenna and a portable telephone or the like to upgrade the performance of the telephone when needed, for example in an automobile.

Auxiliary antenna connector

A range accentuating device for remote control transmitters, used in connection with automobile and other types of accessories and options, is provided. The invention is comprised of an antenna, and a receptacle to couple the remote control transmitter, via mutual coupling, to the antenna. When the remote control transmitter is coupled to the antenna and the remote control transmitter is activated, the signal from the remote control transmitter is accentuated.

Device for accentuating the range of hand-held remote control

A portable antenna is provided for mounting on a motor vehicle's side window and enabling easy and rapid mounting and removal. The portable antenna includes a base member with a current-fed radiator carried by the base member and having a first portion for location on the inside of the side window, a second contiguous portion for overlying the side window and a third portion, contiguous with the second portion, for location outside of the side window with a distal end thereof extending upwardly when in use. A field-canceling conductor is carried by the base portion for location on the inside of the side window. A coaxial cable has its main conductor connected to a proximal end portion of the current-fed radiator and has a ground conductor connected to the field-canceling member. The current-fed radiator is dimensioned so that the second portion thereof is a relatively low impedance area.

Slip-on portable antenna

A portable telephone comprises a telephone housing, a connection member having a longitudinal axis attached to said housing and communicating outwardly therefrom, an antenna carried on the connection member, and a pivot system associated with the connection member to permit the antenna to swivel in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the outer end of the connection member. Further, a clutch-type system is provided, having first and second bearing faces pressed against each other in sliding, rotary bearing relation for relative movement as the antenna swivels. Finally, a combination of the clutch-type system and the pivot system, allowing for an even greater degree of movement by the antenna, is provided, allowing three dimensional placement of the antenna for optimum reception and transmission of signals.

Knuckle swivel antenna for portable telephone

An antenna cable connector system is provided comprising a coaxial cable having a main central conductor, a coaxial dielectric, a coaxial braid conductor, and an outer insulative jacket. A connector having a conductive tube at its distal end receives the main central conductor. A main body portion is provided for receiving the coaxial dielectric. A sleeve is located proximal to the main body portion for surrounding the outer insulative jacket. An antenna box is provided having means for receiving the connector with a push-in fit. The receiving means includes a conductive member having an opening for receiving the conductive tube. A set screw carried within a lateral passage defined by the antenna box locks the connector to the antenna box.

Antenna with push-in cable connector

An antenna is provided having a base for connection to a vehicle, a radiator whip, and an electrical connector for connecting the radiator whip to the base. The electrical connector comprises a first member defining an opening and a second member defining another opening. The openings defined by the first and second members are in alignment when the electrical connector is in its first position. When the electrical connector is in a second position, the openings are in misalignment. The openings are of a size that is adapted to receive the radiator whip. Manually operable means are provided for rotating the electrical connector about the radiator whip from the first position in which the radiator whip may be removed from the electrical connector to a second position in which the radiator whip is locked with respect to the electrical connector.

Antenna with quick disconnect whip

A cordless antenna is provided for mounting on a motor vehicle's window. The cordless antenna has an outside radiator carried by an outer RF transfer member and an inside radiator carried by an inner RF transfer member. The inside radiator is pivotally connected by means of a movable clutch to the inner RF transfer member, enabling the inside antenna to extend downwardly and in the general direction of an antenna on a portable telephone used by a person within the vehicle.

Cordless antenna

A base station antenna is disclosed having a ground plane in the form of a coarse screen. The coarse screen is connected to a support member. A pair of helical radiators is coupled, through the support member, to the coarse screen with one of the helical radiators being pivotable about its axis to vary the polarization.

An inside window antenna is disclosed having a housing adapted for mounting on an inside window, a dipole mounted within the housing with the opposed dipole ends extending out of the housing, and an electrical cable having a main conductor and a ground conductor. The main conductor is connected to a first location on the dipole, the ground conductor is connected to a second location on the dipole, and means are carried by the housing for mounting the housing on the window.

Inside window antenna

An antenna for mounting on the window or the like comprises outer and inner RF transfer members, each having an electrically conductive member on its underside for respective engagement with the inside and outside of the window. A current-fed radiator is carried by the RF transfer member on the outside of the window, while the inner RF transfer member connects to electrical cable having both a main electrical conductor and a ground conductor. In accordance with this invention, counterpoise means comprises a conductor carried by the inner RF transfer member which is adapted for electrical engagement with a ground conductor. Typically, the elongated conductor is of about a quarter wavelength and is a coil. The counterpoise means typically extends in a direction which is at least generally in the direction of the current-fed radiator.

On-glass antenna with center-fed dipole operation

A portable antenna is provided for mounting on a motor vehicle's side window and enabling easy and rapid mounting and removal. The portable antenna includes an outer RF transfer member, a current-fed radiator connected to the outer RF transfer member, an inner RF transfer member, a field-cancelling member operative to cancel the electromagnetic field in the plane of the field-cancelling member, and a pair of generally parallel wire members pivotally connecting the outer transfer member to the inner transfer member and bridging the inner and outer transfer members so as to overlie the side window when the antenna is mounted thereon.

Portable antenna

A portable antenna including a housing, a radiator having its proximal end located within the housing and its distal end located outside of the housing, an electrical cable connected to the housing, and a support member coupled to the housing. The support member extends generally in the opposite direction of the radiator and has a portion for insertion and retention between the side window and door frame of a motor vehicle.
