A variable valve control apparatus includes an oscillating arm and a pivot lever pivotably mounted to each other via a swivel joint. A first roller, which is rotatably mounted on an arm of the pivot lever engages with the camming surface of a cam, while a second roller which is rotatably mounted on another arm of the pivot lever makes contact with a contact surface of an arcuate sliding block disposed within a housing of the valve control apparatus. The contact surface of the sliding block includes a first region which has an arcuate contour, and a radius that is centered on a pivot axis of the swivel joint when the valve is in the closed position, as well as a second region which adjoins the first region and has a curved spur that extends inwardly toward the swivel joint. The sliding block is slidable along an arcuate path between a first position in which the second roller engages the first region of the contact surface and a second position in which it engages the second region of the contact surface, so that, when the sliding block is in the first position, the pivot joint remains stationary, and the valve remains closed. When the sliding block is in the second position, the second roller engages with the spur, so that camming movement of the first roller actuates the valve to an open position.

Guide systems for variable valve controller

A valve-stroke control apparatus continuously varies the stroke of a valve in an engine, and selectively maintains it in a closed position, while the engine is in operation. The control apparatus includes a force-transmitting rod which is pivoted by a cam and a cam-contact roller. An additional roller on one end of said force-transmitting rod engages a transverse contact surface of a stroke-length setting lever. The contact surface has a contour such that pivoting of the force-transmitting rod causes movement between the contact surface and the additional roller, which in turn displaces the force-transmitting rod longitudinally in a direction associated with valve opening. Such displacement is introduced by way of a rotary articulation into a rocking lever that activates the valve.

Valve-stroke controls

The invention relates to space-saving, easily-assembled guide systems for mechanical, variable value controllers, cam followers (), driven by a cam () via a cam roller (), the pivot joint () of which, for driving a tappet () which operates the value (), is arranged in the tappet (), or the pivot joint for the adjustment thereof runs in an arc around the axis of rotation of a roller, which is arranged on a tappet operating a value. The cam followers drive the tappets by means of the contact surface with the roller thereof. The guide systems are embodied with slide blocks (), adjustable within slide housings (), guide arms mounted in rollers and guide levers mounted in crank levers. According to application, the guide systems comprise contact surfaces, rollers or pivot joints.

Mechanical controls for continuously varying the length of the stroke of the valves in an internal-combustion engine and for maintaining the valves constantly closed while the engine is in operation while simultaneously varying how long the valve or valves remain open, whereby the valves are actuated by rocker levers that are in turn actuated by an angled lever, whereby the positions of the levers are varied in order to vary the length and duration of the stroke. The valves are actuated at low engine speeds by assigning a specific narrow angle of rotation to each abbreviated stroke to be established. FIG.illustrates valve stroke controls with an angled lever () actuated by a cam () mounted on a lateral roller (). In the event of a misalignment, a planetary gear comes into play, wherein a roller (), mounted on the rocker lever () that actuates the valve () acts a sun wheel, the angled lever () acts as a planet wheel, and a setting lever () acts as a planet bearing.
