Disclosed is a method for subjecting adherent cells to at least one electric field, in which the electric field is generated by applying a voltage to at least two active electrodes, wherein at least three electrodesare provided, and wherein at least two electrodesare active electrodeswhen the voltage is applied in order to generate a first electric field, and in which at least one second electric field is generated, wherein at least one of the two previously active electrodesis a potential-free electrodewhen the voltage is applied. Also disclosed is a devicecomprising at least three electrodes, which are connected to at least one voltage source by means of at least one switching device, wherein at least five electrodesare connected to the at least one voltage source by means of four switching devices, wherein at least two electrodesare connected to the voltage source by means of a common switching device. In conjunction with the method described above, the device according to the invention allows the efficient and uniform treatment of adherent cells using an electric field, wherein the switch between active and potential-free electrodes can be carried out quickly and safely using a lower number of switching devices.

Method and device for uniformly treating adherent cells

The invention relates to an electrode assembly, in particular for applying at least one electric field to adherent cells, comprising at least two electrodes, each having at least one surfacewhich is arranged opposite the corresponding surfaceof the other electrode, wherein an electrically insulating materialis arranged at least partially between the surfacesof the electrodes. The solution according to the invention allows the electric field to be concentrated in the region of the cells to be treated such that a voltage pulse, or the current produced thereby, flows through the cells without the majority flowing away over the cells unused in the electrolyte. The invention relates to a method for generating at least one electrically contactable area on a polymer which is doped with a conductive substance, wherein a contact material is applied onto the polymer, which has a lower specific resistance at 23&#xb0; C. than the polymer. According to the invention the contact material is applied onto the polymer so tightly that close contact between the contact material and the conductive substance is achieved. Due to the tight application of the contact material, which has a lower specific resistance than the polymer, the input resistance of the doped polymer is effectively reduced. The invention further concerns a formed body made of a polymer which is doped with a conductive substance, which has at least one contactable area, within which a contact material is applied onto the polymer, which has a lower specific resistance at 23&#xb0; C. than the polymer. According to the invention the contact material is applied onto the polymer so tightly that it is in close contact to the conductive substance. Such formed body has a significantly reduced input resistance.

A method for introducing biologically active molecules into animal or human cells using an electric current includes suspending the cells and dissolving the biologically active molecules in a buffer solution including HEPES and at least 10 mmol&#xd7;1magnesium ions (Mg), the buffer solution having a buffer capacity of at least 20 mmol&#xd7;1&#xd7;pHat a change in the pH from pH 7 to pH 8 and at a temperature of 25&#xb0; C., and an ionic strength of at least 200 mmol&#xd7;1. An electric voltage is applied to the suspension.

Disclosed is a method for treating biological material via electrical current, in which the biological material is added to a small volume of a buffer solution having relative high ionic strength. A strong electrical field is generated in the buffer solution by a high voltage pulse having a preset duration. The biological material is added to at most 50 &#x3bc;l of a buffer solution with an ionic strength of at least 100 mmol/l. By at least one voltage pulse having a preset duration of at least 10 &#x3bc;s, an electrical field with a field strength of at least 1 kV/cm is generated in the buffer solution. The voltage pulse is hereby interrupted at least once for a duration of at least 100 &#x3bc;s and is then again continued.
