The present invention provides a sterile, unitized, economical device furnishing a fluid path between a plurality of solutions to be compounded and a receiving container. The device includes a plurality of fluid connectors and fluid lines sealingly connected to respective pump fittings which provide individual paths to a common junction block. The common junction block includes a portion for receiving fluid lines and preventing them from crimping thereby maintaining fluid flow. The block also includes an exit port for providing a sealingly sterile connection to the receiving container. Further, a closure is provided to protect the exit port from contamination when the port is not providing fluid communication to the receiving container.

Fluid communication device

A luer connection device in which a male luer connector includes an outer sleeve that is slideable up a tapered wall so that compression between the outer sleeve and the tapered wall increases as the outer sleeve moves forwardly. An outwardly extending flange is carried by the body of the male luer connector for cooperation with the outer sleeve, to enable the outer sleeve to be unscrewed from a female luer connector without relative rotation of both the main portion of the male luer connector and the outer sleeve.

An implantable medical device and system for percutaneous (e.g., peritoneal as well as subcutaneous) administration of a medication from an external source is disclosed. Continuous, variable rate, or intermittent administration of medication can be effected without the need for repeated puncturing of the patient's skin. The present device includes an implant that is transcutaneously anchored to the patient, an insert releasably mounted on the implant, and a seal means on the implant which seals an implant cavity that receives the insert upon removal of the insert so that the patient is protected from infection while the insert is replaced.

The present invention teaches a medical device which mixes a primary medication with a secondary medication before administration to a patient. The device is also capable of automatically sequentially administering the primary medication alone to the patient. The device includes a medication chamber which is reduced in volume to deliver the secondary medication for mixing with the primary medication.

Medication mixing and sequential administration device

A sequential medication delivery device for intravenous administration of plural medications is disclosed. A secondary medication can be administered to a patient followed by an automatic resumption of the delivery of the primary medication at a predetermined flow rate. The disclosed medication delivery device includes an internal valving system and an associated medication chamber that contains the secondary medication to be delivered. While the medication chamber contains such secondary medication, the flow of primary medication to the patient is interrupted. However, once the medication chamber has been substantially emptied the flow of primary medication to the patient is resumed automatically.

Sequential medication delivery device

An administration set including a burette with an air valve communicating with the burette chamber. The air valve comprises a stationary port extending from a top portion of the burette chamber with a fitting closing the port except for a small passageway defined by a top portion of the fitting. A pivotable closure overlies the port and is pivotally connected therewith. The pivotable closure defines an opening for communication with the small passageway when the closure is pivoted to a predetermined open position. The closure opening and the passageway are segregated when the closure is not in the predetermined open position. A filter member is received within the port and directly underlies the small passageway.

A tamper indicating device (24) is connected to the inlet (14) of an injection site (10) which inlet (14) includes a pierceable, self-sealing member (16). The tamper indicating device (24) comprises a cap (26, 28) which covers the inlet (14) rendering the pierceable, self-sealing member (16) inaccessible. A first portion (26) of the cap is connected to the inlet (14) and a second portion (28) of the cap is separated from the first portion (26) by a frangible section (30). A handle (32) extends from the second portion (28) and is operable when actuated to break the second portion (28) away from the first portion (26) at the frangible section (30), rendering the pierceable, self-sealing member (16) accessible. The first portion (26) remains connected to the inlet (14) to indicate that tampering has occurred.

A bypass valve assembly is provided in a medical fluid administration set to prevent rupture of a hydrophilic membrane valve of a burette in the administration set, eliminating the need for additional procedural safeguards by medical personnel during priming of the set.

A check valve housing is rigidly attached to the first inlet of an injection site having a body portion, a first inlet, a second inlet and an outlet. The check valve housing encloses a duckbill valve member and has an interior wall which securely and frictionally engages a portion of the external surface of the duckbill valve member.

A one-way slide clamp is provided having a slot member with a one-way passageway intermediate a tube receiving section and a tube crimping section to restrain the tubing in the crimping section thereby permanently sealing the fluid passageway.

A plastic slide clamp for tubing is provided which includes a slightly bowed configuration to compensate for the phenomenon of cold flow when plastic tubing is crimped shut by the clamp. In one embodiment, the clamp is provided with an insert member of low friction surface properties which surrounds the crimping slot.

A parenteral liquid administering device includes an enlarged, liquid-holding burette-type chamber for receiving measured aliquots of liquid from a source. The burette has a bottom flow aperture with a valve controlling flow through the aperture. The valve includes a buoyant float ball and a valve seat positioned about the bottom flow aperture to receive the ball, in the absence of sufficient liquid to float it, in air-tight, sealing relation. Apertured retention means are provided surrounding the ball which are proportioned to permit it to float in spaced relation from the valve seat in the presence of liquid passing through the apertured retention means.

Apparatus for administering parenteral liquid in sequential units

An injection site is provided which is molded inside out with inwardly extending rings. The rings have a smaller internal diameter than the external diameter of the tubular member to which the injection site is to be connected. The injection site has a central portion for receiving a needle therethrough, and a first, cylindrical portion which is extended into the tubular member. After such insertion, the portion with the attached rings is folded back onto the tubular member. The rings become positioned on the outside of the assembly and are in the compressed state squeezing tightly against the tubular member.
