Techniques for improved wireless reliability are provided. It is determined that a client device is at least one of an augmented reality (AR) or a virtual reality (VR) device. A default set of retry parameters and a second set of retry parameters are determined, where the second set of retry parameters result in increased wireless reliability, as compared to the default set of retry parameters. Data is transmitted to the client device using the second set of retry parameters.

Wireless reliability for devices in motion

In one embodiment, a device determines locations of a plurality of transmitters relative to a particular wireless access point in a wireless network. One of the transmitters comprises a target client to which the particular wireless access point is to communicate. The device compares a plurality of beamforming patterns associated with the particular wireless access point to the determined locations. The device selects, based on the comparison, one of the beamforming patterns for use by the particular wireless access point to communicate with the target client. The device controls the particular wireless access point to use the selected beamforming pattern to communicate with the target client.

Wireless beamforming optimization using client location information

In one embodiment, a network device connected to an Internet Protocol (IP) network and a serial network scans an infrastructure of the serial network. Based on the scanning, the network device can determine one or more serial endpoints within the serial network infrastructure, and may then allocate an IP address to each of the one or more serial endpoints. The network device may then map received IP network traffic into serial protocol commands on the serial network for a destination serial endpoint having an allocated IP address corresponding to a destination IP address of the received IP network traffic, and may also bridge data present on the serial network from a sourcing serial endpoint into an IP message on the IP network with an indication of a corresponding allocated IP address of the sourcing serial endpoint, accordingly.

In one embodiment, a method includes: determining a plurality of candidate paths for a plurality of media streams, where each of the candidate paths is characterized by a first set of performance attributes and each of the plurality of media streams is characterized by a set of stream parameters; jointly determining a respective path from among the plurality of candidate paths that satisfies the set of stream parameters for each of the plurality of the media streams; and coordinating transmission of the plurality of media streams via the jointly determined respective path for each of the plurality of media streams. According to some implementations, the method is performed by a device with one or more processors and non-transitory memory.

Method and device for improved multi-homed media transport

Presented herein are techniques for application criteria-based path selection in a network. An application controller receives endpoint application criteria that specify end-to-end conditions that at least one network is to satisfy when forwarding the at least one packet flow. The application controller evaluates a plurality of different types of end-to-end network paths to determine whether one or more of the plurality of end-to-end network paths satisfies the endpoint application criteria.

End-to-end network path selection

In one embodiment, a first device in a network sends a Session Traversal Utilities for Network Address Translation (STUN) binding request towards an endpoint device of a media session between the first and endpoint devices. The binding request includes one or more network attribute fields. The first device receives a binding response from an intermediate node between the first and endpoint devices in the network, in response to sending the binding request towards the endpoint device. The intermediate node inserted the one or more network attribute fields into the binding response. The received binding response includes one or more metrics for the media session in the one or more network attribute fields. The first device adjusts one or more bitrates of the media session based on the one or more metrics for the media session in the received binding response.

Optimizing media bitrate with explicit network feedback on one client only

Video quality management (VQM) may be provided. First, transmitter metrics corresponding to a video stream may be determined by a transmitting endpoint. The determined transmitter metrics may then be transmitted from the transmitting end point and received by a receiver. The receiver may then determine receiver metrics for a video stream received at the receiver. A quality score may then be determined by the receiver. The quality score may be based on the received transmitter metrics and the determined receiver metrics.

Endpoint information for network VQM

A STUN message is received at a router device in a network from a client device in the network along a network path. The STUN message is evaluated for information that indicates to the router device to modify media that is subsequently sent along the network path. If the evaluating indicates that the router device is to modify the media, the media is modified in accordance with information in the STUN message that indicates attributes of the network.

Rich media status and feedback for devices and infrastructure components using in path signaling

In one implementation, a method for implementing gain control enhancement for modulated communications includes establishing a communication session between a first endpoint and a second endpoint. The communication session involves forwarding a call signal using an initial gain level until a state transition is detected in the communication session at a digital signal processor. The detection may occur in a transmitting gateway associated with the first endpoint or a receiving gateway associated with the second endpoint. The state transition indicates modulated communications, which may include fax, modem, or text telephony. For example, communication session may be fax over IP (FoIP). The call signal is forwarded using an adjusted gain level based on the state transition. The adjusted gain level may be selected to avoid clipping in the call signal.

Gain control enhancement for modulated communications

A rate adaptive video conference bridge and related techniques are provided. At a video conference bridge, a source video stream is received from a source endpoint device in a network. The source video stream is encoded using a first encoder unit and second encoder unit to generate respective first and second encoded video streams. A determination is made whether to decrease or increase a bit rate of the source video stream based on network condition information. If the bit rate is to be decreased, the first encoder unit is instructed to send the first encoded video stream to a destination endpoint device. If the bit rate is to be increased, the second encoder unit is instructed to send the second encoded video stream to the destination endpoint device.

Techniques for a rate-adaptive video conference bridge

In one embodiment, one or more gateways sniff the voice channel during the voice mode. If it is determined that V.8bis signals are being initiated, then the gateway breaks these exchanges by suppressing such signaling. Modem relay communications then are allowed to proceed. Briefly, the method and apparatus involve monitoring a call during a voice mode phase for an initiating signal representative of the defined signaling, the monitoring being performed by a local gateway and, if such an initiating signal is detected during the monitoring, then suppressing such detected signaling in such manner that the signaling does not reach the remote gateway. Preferably, the monitoring is for an initiating signal characterized by a dual tone of defined frequency and duration of approximately 1375 Hz and 2002 Hz for a duration of approximately 400 ms or 285 ms, in agreement with the ITU-T Recommendation V.8bis (standard) adopted by the International Telecommunication Union. Monitoring is continued at least until an answer back from an answering station is received by the gateway. When the suppression succeeds and the remote (non-initiating gateway that may be awaiting such an initiating signal halts any further V.8bis transaction attempts, the local gateway initiates a modem relay session of operation with the remote gateway.
