Described is a device for stabilizing a vehicle in critical driving situations, including a vehicle dynamics control system having a control unit, including a vehicle dynamics control algorithm, and at least one actuator and an additional vehicle stability system having an associated actuator. Vehicle dynamics control may be executed in a particularly simple and trouble-free manner when the vehicle dynamics control algorithm is retrofitted with a distribution function which derives an actuating request for an actuator of the vehicle dynamics control system as well as an actuating request for at least one actuator of the vehicle stability system from a controller output variable.

A steering system for a vehicle, having a steering wheel, a steering gear and a steering module, disposed between them, for superimposed steering engagement by a controlled electric motor. The electric motor has an input shaft connected to the steering wheel and an output shaft connected to the steering gear. The invention concerns a system for automatic following guidance, particularly for heavy-traffic automatic following guidance, of a motor vehicle ( ), designed to ease the burden on the driver in heavy-traffic situations both by taking over lateral guidance by means of an automatic steering regulation system and by maintaining a set distance from a leading vehicle. The latter function requires an adaptive cruise and braking regulation system with &ldquo;stop&rdquo; and &ldquo;go&rdquo; function. According to the invention, selection and decision means ( ) are provided that select both the regulating parameters and the types of controllers &lsqb;sic&rsqb;, e.g., following guidance of the motor vehicle ( ) on the basis of lane markings recognized by means of a video camera or on the basis of a recognized leading vehicle. The system is divided into hierarchical levels I-IV, the driver always being in the monitoring and adaptation loop assigned to the top level IV of the hierarchy, so that he has the highest priority and can override the system at any time.

Automatic following guidance system for motor vehicles

A steer-by-wire steering system comprised of an electronically regulated steering positioner mounted to the steering gear of the front axle or to both front wheels of a vehicle together with an electronic steering regulator and a feedback actuator. A sensor senses the driver's selected direction from the steering wheel. Road feedback can be relayed to the driver through a feedback actuator via the steering wheel. The loss of road feel caused by the absence of the steering column, which normally strongly influences the driver's directional wish, is recreated by the feedback actuator.

Steer-by-wire steering system for motorized vehicles

An improved method for exchange of data in data processing installations, especially Controller Areas Networks (CAN), permits acknowledged and segmented transmission of data strings, of arbitrarily long length, between at least two stations in the network or other data processing installation. The method includes the transmission of the messages associated with the data by means of frames; the frames contain a header field and a data field. In the event of contention between multiple stations of the data processing installation for access to the bus connection, which frame has priority is determined by evaluating the respective header fields. In the data field of the frame, there is a control information field (58, 95) containing a message code which serves to identify the message type. The message codes distinguish among activation messages (AR, AC), data messages (DT), and acknowledgement (AK) messages. This permits transmission of data strings, of limited length, with acknowledgement. Further, the control information fields (58, 95) of certain messages contain a sequence number, a receiver status code, a message end code, and a code specifying how many data bytes are being transmitted in the frame. With this additional information, data strings of arbitrarily long length may be transmitted as segments. The receipt of the individual partial messages is confirmed by sending back an acknowledgment in each case.
