A method for transmitting an identifier for the type of a generator from the regulator of the generator to a control unit of a motor vehicle having the following steps: detection of a starting process of the motor vehicle and automatic transmission of the identifier from the regulator via an analog signal line to the control unit following the detection of the starting process. Furthermore, also described is a device for transmitting an identifier for the type of a generator, having a generator, a regulator provided for regulating the generator and a control unit connected to the regulator via an analog signal line, the regulator being provided so as to transmit automatically the identifier via the analog signal line to the control unit following a detection of a starting process.

Power supply devices for vehicle electrical systems in particular, including two voltage systems, i.e., vehicle electrical systems, each having its own generator. The first generator and the battery belong to the same voltage system, and the second generator belongs to the second voltage system. If the two voltage systems were decoupled, the second generator would not have the excitation current required for starting, so means are consequently provided here to connect the second generator to a charge storage device after actuation of the ignition switch, thereby generating an excitation current; this charge storage device may also be the battery of the first voltage system and the connection is kept conductive until the second generator starts and is generating an output voltage.

A method and a device for providing the supply voltage for the loads of a vehicle on-board electrical system, using a plurality of generators. A regulator unit having at least one output stage transistor is allocated to each of the generators. The output stage transistor is controlled by means of a pulse-width-modulated control signal. The control signal generated in one of the regulator units, or a control signal derived therefrom that describes the pulse-duty factor of the pulse-width-modulated signal, is also supplied to the regulator units of the additional generators, and is also used there to control the output stage transistors. This procedure may bring into agreement the degree of loading of the generators.

The invention relates to an electrical fuse for rotary current generators, having a rectifier assembly ( ) for supplying a DC network, in particular in motor vehicles. A method for assisting the steering forces to be produced in a vehicle by means of an electric motor acting on the steering column is proposed. This method is characterized in that the additional torque produced by the electric motor is controlled in dependence upon the steering torque to be produced for actuating the steering and upon the steering torque supplied overall. The additional torque is thus dependent on the torque which is produced at the steering wheel by the driver and, in addition, on the torque which is supplied by the steering arrangement on the wheels to be steered. The electric motor is controlled by a controller 5 via an actuator 6, an additional torque M*.sub.R, which is dependent on the vehicle speed, being input into the controller. As characteristic shaper, the controller has a dead-time element by which the control intervenes only from a certain limit value of the torque M*.sub.R input into the controller 5. This results in a particularly good contact with the roadway for the driver in combination with optimal assistance to the steering forces.
