Method of reducing the amount of a fluorinated acid or its salts from a fluoropolymer, the method comprises: (i) providing a composition containing particles of the fluoropolymer, (ii) contacting the fluoropolymer particles with a treatment composition comprising at least one organic liquid; and, optionally, further comprising (iii) isolating, washing and subjecting the fluoropolymer to drying treatment, and wherein the fluoropolymer contains units derived from tetrafluoroethene (TFE) and is selected from the group of fluoroelastomers and the group of fluoropolymers having a melting point of less than 150° C. Also provided are fluoropolymer and compositions containing such polymers that are essentially free of fluorinated acids and their salts.

Fluoropolymers with very low amounts of a fluorinated alkanoic acid or its salts

A copolymer having tetrafluoroethylene units and second polymerized monomer units in a range from 0.2 to 1 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the copolymer. Rf is a linear or branched perfluoroalkyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms and optionally interrupted by one or more &#x2014;O&#x2014; groups, n is independently from 1 to 6, and z is 0, 1, or 2. The copolymer has a melt flow index in a range from 0.02 grams per 10 minutes to 19.4 grams per 10 minutes. The copolymer can be extruded to make articles, such as insulated cables. A method of making the copolymer is also disclosed.

Tetrafluoroethylene and perfluorinated allyl ether copolymers

A method of making a highly fluorinated polymers and resulting aqueous mixtures. The method comprising polymerizing one or more perfluorinated monomers in an aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier to form a perfluorinated polymer. The polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier has the formula XC&#x2550;CX(CF)(CH)[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2212;[O&#x2014;(CX&#x2014;CX)]&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[CH]&#x2014;Y. The method also provides for isolating the highly fluorinated polymer and post-fluorinating the isolated highly fluorinated polymer.

The method comprising polymerizing one or more fluorinated monomers in an aqueous emulsion polymerization in the presence of a polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier to form a fluorinated polymer. The polymerizable fluorinated emulsifier has the formula XC&#x2550;CX(CF)m(CH)n[O&#x2014;(CX)p]q-[O&#x2014;(CX)]&#x2014;[O&#x2014;(CX&#x2014;CX)]&#x2014;[(O)&#x2014;(CX)u]v-[CH]&#x2014;Y.

Partially fluorinated polymers

Described herein is a composition comprising an aqueous polymerization reaction product of fluorinated monomers and wherein the polymerization is initiated (i) in the absence of a fluorinated emulsifier and whereby no fluorinated emulsifier is added during polymerization or (ii) in the presence of an fluorinated emulsifier selected from: [R&#x2014;O-L-COO-]X(I) wherein L represents a linear or branched, non-fluorinated, partially fluorinated, or fully fluorinated alkylene group, Rrepresents a linear or branched partially or fully fluorinated aliphatic group or a linear or branched partially or fully fluorinated aliphatic group interrupted with at least one oxygen atom, Xrepresents a cation having the valence i and i is 1, 2 or 3; wherein the reaction product and/or the resulting aqueous phase are substantially free of di- and tri-alkylamines and substantially free of low molecular weight fluoroorganic compounds and methods thereof.
