A polymer having as a component thereof a moiety corresponding to a monomer having the following formula ##STR1## wherein n=0 or 1, X is bromine, chlorine or a mixture thereof and R represents hydrogen or methyl, a method of preparing the same and the use of such a polymer, including a copolymer thereof in a plastic composition containing a normally flammable plastic.

A modified polyester composition comprising the condensation product of terephthalic acid or a polyester-forming derivative thereof and a diol, said polyester having an arithmetical mean molecular weight M.sub.n or more than 17,000, a carboxyl equivalent of at least 10 mVal/kg, a nitrogen content of less than 0.4 weight percent and urethane groups linked linearly to said polyester; a process for preparing such modified polyester and a molding composition comprising such modified polyester and an additive, suitably a filler and in particular glass fibers.

Acrylate-based polymers and their use as flameproofing agents

A polymeric formal having the general formula ##STR1## wherein p is 0 or 1, n is a positive integer from 2 to 200 and R represents optionally halogen-substituted straight-chained or branched-chained alkyl radicals having 3 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl radical or an aralkyl radical which can be substituted on one or both sides with alkyl or hydroxyalkyl ether groups; improved methods for the preparation of such formals, tetrabromoxylylene-bis-(.beta.-hydroxyethylether) compounds employed in the preparation of such formals and the use of such polymeric and oligomeric formals as flame retardant agents in plastic compositions especially thermoplastic and polycondensation plastic compositions.

Polymeric and oligomeric formals

A reinforced polyvinylidene fluoride-containing molding composition containing a polyvinylidene fluoride polymer and reinforcing glass fibers, the fibers having between 10 and 28 weight percent of basic oxides and up to 6 weight percent boron oxide, the amount of boron oxide being no more than twice as great as the amount of alkali oxides contained in the basic oxides.

Process for the preparation of tris-(halophenoxy) -1,3,5-triazine of formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 is each a phenoxy substituent having a 0-2 alkyl groups, and 0-2 halo alkyl groups, and has 1-5 halogen atoms which comprises contacting cyanuric acid chloride with alkali phenolate of the formulae R.sub.1 Me, R.sub.2 Me and R.sub.3 Me, wherein Me is alkali metal, and wherein said formulae can be identical or different, in the presence of alkylene diol monoalkyl ether, e.g. methyl or ethyl cellosolve. The ethers are good solvents for the phenolates. The products are used as flame-proofing agents for plastics.
