An illumination system comprising a radiation source and a monolithic ceramic luminescence converter comprising a composite material of at least one luminescent compound, and at least one non-luminescent compound, wherein the material of the non-luminescent compound comprises silicon and nitrogen, is advantageously used, when the luminescent compound comprises an rare-earth metal-activated host compound also comprising silicon and nitrogen. Shared chemical characteristics of the luminescent compound and the non-luminescent material improve phase assemblage, thermal and optical behavior. The invention relates also to a composite monolithic ceramic luminescence converter.

A host lattice modified GOS scintillating material and a method for using a host lattice modified GOS scintillating material is provided. The host lattice modified GOS scintillating material has a shorter afterglow than conventional GOS scintillating material. In addition, a radiation detector and an imaging device incorporating a host lattice modified GOS scintillating material are provided. A spectral filter may be used in conjunction with the GOS scintillating material.

Fluorescent material for use in CT applications

A host lattice modified GOS scintillating material and a method for using a host lattice modified GOS scintillating material is provided. The host lattice modified GOS scintillating material has a shorter afterglow than conventional GOS scintillating material. In addition, a radiation detector and an imaging device incorporating a host lattice modified GOS scintillating material are provided.

A radiation detector () includes an array of scintillator pixels () in optical communication with a photosensor. The scintillator pixels () include a hygroscopic scintillator () and one or more hermetic covers (). A desiccant () may be disposed between a hermetic cover () and the scintillator () or between the hermetic covers ().

Protection of hygroscopic scintillators

A hot axial pressing method for sintering a ceramic powder, particularly doped Gd2O2S, comprises the step of placing a first porous body (), the ceramic powder () and a second porous body () into a mould shell () supported by a support (). The ceramic powder () is located between the porous bodies (). Gaseous components are evacuated from the ceramic powder () up to an ambient pressure of less than 0.8 bar. The porous body () and the ceramic powder () are heated to a maximum temperature of at least 900&#xb0; C. and are applied to a pressure up to a maximum pressure of at least 75 Mpa. According to the invention the variation in time of the heating step and the variation in time of the pressure applying step is adjusted to each other such that the mould shellis held by the porous bodies () and/or the ceramic powder () in a state where the mould shell () and the support () are disconnected with respect to each other.

The present invention is directed towards an uniaxial pressing and heating apparatus for the production of ceramic materials comprising a heater (), a mold () and a die (), wherein a mold () is arranged inside a heater () and the mold () receives a die () at at least one opening and wherein the die () is actuated under pressure into the mold (), wherein the ratio of the length of the heater () and the length of the mold () is from &#x2267;1.5 to &#x2266;4. The invention is further directed towards a process for the production of ceramics and towards a ceramic material.

Uniaxial pressing and heating apparatus

A scintillation element comprises a scintillation material, and a reflective layer, wherein the reflective layer is formed as an intrinsic part of the scintillation material. A ceramic multilayer capacitor includes a number of ceramic layers on the basis of a doped BaTiO.sub.3 and a number of electrode layers of Ni. Ceramic multilayer capacitor

Components whose palladium metal-containing constituent is not subject to delamination and which exhibit very good dielectric properties are obtained by means of a method of manufacturing a ceramic electronic component. The ceramic electronic component is essentially composed of a dielectric oxide ceramic and at least one palladium-containing component, and is obtained by firing and sintering of a green body containing an organic binder with the firing process including a first step in which the binder is removed from the binder-containing green body by means of a water-gas reaction in a water vapor-containing, essentially oxygen-free, atmosphere at temperatures between 20.degree. and 880 .degree. C., and a second step in which the dielectric oxide ceramic is re-oxidized in an atmosphere having an oxygen content of 10 to 100% by volume at a temperature in the range from 880 .degree. C. to 900 .degree. C.
