A combined lock and latch for use with an exterior compartment door on a recreational vehicle has a cylindrical barrel and a rotatable plug mounted within an axial opening formed in the barrel. A number of spring-biased, key retractable tumblers extend through the plug and are received in a narrow slot formed in the barrel to prevent the plug from rotating relative to the barrel when the plug is in a locked position. A metal cam having mutually perpendicular legs is mounted at one end of the key plug, with one of the cam legs engaging a fixed keeper when the plug is in the locked position. An arcuate groove is formed on the barrel and receives the tumblers when the key plug is in latched and unlatched positions. The groove sweeps through approximately 90 degrees and allows the plug to be freely rotated without the use of a key. A second leg on the metal cam engages the keeper when the key plug is the latched position.

Combined lock and latch

A tamper resistant pop-handle lock is disposed in the door of a vending machine or similar closure, and is used to restrict operation of a spring-biased handle which is seated in a recessed housing and is adapted for manually latching and unlatching the door. The lock has a cylindrical barrel and a rotatable key plug mounted within an opening in the barrel. An axially extending eccentric lug at the inner end of the plug is received in a recess formed on a retractable locking bolt, such that rotation of the plug relative to the barrel causes the locking bolt to move through a second opening in the barrel. A locking surface on the lug-receiving recess engages the eccentric lug when the key plug is in a locked position to prevent radial movement of the bolt and extension of the handle. A pair of diametrically opposed integral tabs on the key plug are engageable with corresponding slots formed in the barrel to prevent forcible axial withdrawal of the key plug from the barrel when the key plug is in the locked position.

Tamper resistant pop-handle lock

A lock is disclosed having a lock barrel with an opening and a key plug rotatable within the opening. The plug is rotatable between first and second operative positions and a third position in which the plug can be withdrawn from the barrel. A tab on the plug abuts a barrel shoulder to hold the plug in the barrel except when the plug is in the third position, where the tab is aligned with an axial slot to permit axial withdrawal of the plug from the barrel. At least one tumbler is adapted to lock the plug against turning, and another tumbler is adapted to prevent the plug from turning to the third position and to allow rotation between the first and second positions. One key operates the one tumbler to permit rotation between operative positions and a second key operates the other tumbler to permit axial withdrawal of the plug from the barrel.

Lock with removable plug

An anti-static switch lock wherein a terminal assembly having the desired configuration of rotor and contacts is secured to one end of a hub. The other end of the hub has an inboard lipped boss forming, in cooperation with the hub end, a circumscribed radial groove. A keylock assembly includes a barrel, one end of which has a chamber to receive the boss of the hub, and a key operated, rotatable plug. The hub, having the terminal assembly attached to one end, is positioned such that the groove is disposed within the chamber of the barrel. A number of stakes are formed in the barrel, the stakes engaging the groove to firmly secure the hub to the barrel. The plug is inserted into the barrel, the end of the plug interlocking with the shaft of the terminal assembly rotor to effectuate switching of contacts. To bias the plug, a spring mount which mounts a coil spring is interposed between the plug and the shaft of the rotor for the terminal assembly, one end of the spring engaging a catch on the hub to urge the rotation of the plug and shaft.

Method for assembly of anti-static switch lock

An improved door latch of the type having a handle movable to latch and unlatch the door. A lock is disposed in the handle and is movable to a locked position wherein the lock extends from the handle to engage the door preventing movement of the handle. A bolt extends from the side of the lock to maintain the lock in the locked position, the bolt being retracted by insertion and rotation of a key in the lock. The lock is also movable to an unlocked position wherein the lock is withdrawn from the door to permit movement of the handle. The improvement concerns a chamber having a partition which defines a first pocket to receive the extended bolt and maintain the lock in the locked position. The partition also defines a second pocket to receive the extended bolt when the lock is in the unlocked position. To move the lock between the unlocked and locked position the key must be inserted to retract the bolt clear of the partition. This prevents the inadvertent locking of the door in the closed position without the key.

Anti-static switch lock and method for assembly thereof

A latch, as for a door, having a handle movable to latch and unlatch the door and a removable lock located within the handle. The lock is provided with a stop engaging finger on its end and a retractable bolt on its side. The lock receptacle in the handle has a plurality of bolt engaging surfaces therein which hold the lock in the handle in a locked position wherein the finger engages the stop to prevent movement of the handle, hold the lock in the handle in an unlocked position in which the finger does not engage the stop, and provide a means whereby the bolt may be completely retracted for lock removal.

Latch having a removable lock

A security box is provided with a closure inserted or removed from a channelled opening in one wall thereof. The closure has a security plate attached to the inside wall thereof, which security plate has rearwardly extending flanges on two sides thereof with a portion between said sides having a flange with an elongate tongue portion adapted to extend through a slot in the channel in the box such that a latch bar of a lock can nest in an opening in the tongue behind the channel for locking the closure in place on the box. The other end portion of the security plate has an offset ledge spaced from the wall of the closure such that the ledge is positioned behind one edge of the opening in the box which, in combination with the lock, prevents removal of the closure from the box. In one modified form, the security box has outwardly facing channels completely around the opening and the security plate has two rearwardly extending tongue portions on opposite sides thereof which fit through slots in the channel so that a latch bar can simultaneously nest in openings in the two tongue portions and behind the channels for locking the closure to the box. In another modification, an interfitting portion of the security plate nests behind the one channel with the latch bar secured in an opening in the tongue portion and behind the channel so as to hold the closure securely in the opening in the box.
