A system for the computer-aided measurement of quality and/or process data during the production and/or conversion of a material web, in particular paper or board web, by way of correlation with raw measured data. The raw measured data is present in the form of other quality and process data during the production or conversion process. Measurements of quality parameters in the laboratory may also be incorporated in the raw measured data. The raw measured data is combined to form data sets which in each case are determined simultaneously. Specific laboratory or quality measurements are selected as target data which, by way of at least one soft-sensor algorithm running in a computer-based operation and linking unit, can be calculated from the other data serving as input data, and each data set containing measured data, which relates approximately to the same monitored volume of web and raw material, in particular paper and paper raw material.

In a process and a device for the formation of a multi-ply and/or multi-layer fiber material web, in particular of a paper or cardboard web, at least one of the two external plies and/or layers of the fiber material web is formed using fiber material, on whose wetted fiber surfaces, at least one additive has been at least partially deposited.

Process for the formation of a multi-ply and/or multilayer fiber web

The process is designed for the flotation of interfering materials from an aqueous fibrous pulp suspension and is in particular used in the processing of printed or used paper that is otherwise contaminated. The separation of gas bubbles of the suspension occurs in a flotation layer that has a maximum thickness of approximately 100 mm. The process also achieves good flotation results in fibrous pulp suspensions that have a fiber pulp content significantly larger than 1% by weight, for example around 2% by weight. A flotation apparatus is provided for performing the flotation process. The apparatus includes a flotation vessel, an inlet, an outlet, and a skimmer device.

Process and floatation device for the removal of interfering materials from an aqueous fiber pulp suspension

The process targets the removal of interfering materials from an aqueous fibrous material suspension, especially if this is produced from recycled paper. Thereby interfering materials, such as printing ink particles, small synthetic particles, or sticky contamination, are eliminated by flotation in a particularly advantageous manner. In accordance with the invention, the combination of low-intensity and high-intensity flotation is undertaken, whereby the low-intensity flotation generally works in the gravitational field and the high-intensity flotation in a centrifugal field.

Process for treating a fibrous material suspension using combination of low-intensity and high-intensity flotation

Process and device for draining a fibrous pulp suspension. The process may include positioning two surfaces to converge in a downstream direction, feeding the fibrous pulp suspension between the two converging surfaces, driving at least one of the two converging surfaces to move the suspension with a relative translational velocity, and draining the fibrous pulp suspension through each of the two surfaces. The device may include two arcuate surfaces positioned to form converging surfaces. One of the two arcuate surfaces may include a drivable, pivotable, and rotatable cylinder having an outer sleeve with openings, the other of the two arcuate surfaces may include a screen positioned to be guided around at least a portion of the outer sleeve. The screen and the openings may form drains for draining the fluid pulp suspension.

Process and device to drain a fibrous pulp suspension

A drying section of a paper machine includes a plurality of individual drying groups, wherein the drying cylinders of a drying group are served by 2 respective dryer wire or felt that passes over drying cylinders of the drying group and presses a web to be dried against the surface of the drying cylinders. The invention is adapted for either single tier or double tier drying groups. At least one press roll is disposed between and separates two of the drying groups. In one embodiment, the at least one press roll forms a nip with the adjacent drying cylinder, either upstream or downstream, to define a dewatering nip through which the web passes. A dewatering belt passes over the press roll in the nip. The wire for a respective drying group is guided away from the dewatering nip so that only the web and the dewatering belt pass through the press nip. In alternate embodiments, two press rolls may be disposed between the adjacent drying groups, and the two press rolls define a press nip between them. A respective dewatering belt passes over each of the press rolls. One of those press rolls may also be in contact with and define a press nip with the adjacent drying cylinder in the adjacent drying group. An open draw free path may be defined between one of the press rolls and the adjacent drying cylinder.

A drying section of a papermaking machine includes several drying groups with at least one drying screen each. At the end of one drying group and/or at the beginning of the next following drying group, a finishing roller is utilized. A finishing nip is formed between one of two finishing rollers and a finishing roller and a drying cylinder of an adjacent drying group. Only the paper web is conveyed through the finishing nip.

A suction roll (1), in particular for a paper web dryer, comprising a perforated roll jacket (2), with at least one non-rotatable hollow shaft (3) which communicates with the interior of the suction roll via openings (7, 7') and at least one closing member (9) displaceable in the axial direction for separating off at least one peripheral region of the suction roll. The at least one, in particular disc-shaped dividing wall (5) is located in the suction roll interior and has at least one, preferably central opening (22). It can be of benefit when the dividing wall (5) corotates with the roll and/or when the at least one closing member (9) has the form of a hollow cylinder. Further, if the non-rotatable hollow shaft (3) is designed to be axially displaceable, it can be used to control the size of the opening (22) in the dividing wall (5).

Suction roll in particular for a paper web dryer

The invention relates to an apparatus for the generation of smoothness in paper. The paper (1) is thereby supplied to the rolls (2) of the smoothing mechanism with a moisture distribution which is characterized in that the moisture content in the inner layers of the paper is substantially smaller or at least as large as in the outer layers. This can be achieved with the aid of a dielectric paper web heating device (3) which is positioned in front of the rolls (2) of the smoothing mechanism. Through the invention less energy is to be required for the same smoothness values and a lower reduction in volume is to take place.

The suction roll, especially for a paper web drier, comprises a perforated roll shell containing therein an internal chamber partitioned by a wall member transversely arranged with respect to the lengthwise axis of the suction roll. A connection flow communicates the interior of the suction roll with a suction device, preferably a vacuum pump. At least one blade or vane within the suction roll at least reduces or prevents a possibly arising rotational or cyclone-like flow. Thus, the pressure differential brought about by the suction device can be completely used for creating the suction action and for fixing the paper web at the suction roll. This rotational or cyclone-like flow particularly occurs when the suction action is applied through a hollow shaft or duct.

The apparatus for interconnecting two groups of driers of a papermaking machine serves to interconnect two successive drying sections through which successively travels a paper web which is dried by such successive drying sections. When needed or desired, such interconnection must be interrupted. For this purpose there are used additional elements which are capable of bringing about a separation of the endless drying wires associated with the respective web drying sections and, at the same time, during normal operation, that is, during the transfer of the paper web from the one to the other drying section, affording a regulatable operation capable of retaining the quality of the paper web. Thus, for this purpose there are proposed the use of adjustable rollers and also suction boxes operated under vacuum conditions.

Apparatus for interconnecting two groups of driers of a papermaking

The invention relates to a method for roll cooling in paper machines with soft smoothing mechanisms. The object of the invention is to protect the soft roll from damage without having to increase the extent of edge trimming of the paper web. This is achieved in that the parts of the soft roll which respectively project beyond the width of the paper web are cooled by the application of a thin and sharply bounded water film. The corresponding devices for generating the water films are mounted in carriages which are displaceable along a transverse beam parallel to the roll.

Pump-like inlet blading has operatively connected therewith a multi-stage stepped diffusor axially opening into a separation chamber. For the removal of light particles, openings or recesses are provided at the outlet side of an inner cylinder and such merge with withdrawal channels at the inner cylinder. If necessary, there are provided for the heavy particles a collecting groove at least in front of turbine-like outlet blading and from which lead openings, so-called saveall openings towards the outside. These saveall openings are briefly alternatingly opened and closed during operation of the stock suspension cleaner. The fluid stream of the cleaned stock suspension is removed by the turbine-like outlet blading. At least one part of the inner cylinder which delimits the separation chamber is separately rotatable relative to the outer cylinder, so that such inner cylinder part can be rotated at a different rotational speed than the outer cylinder. The inner cylinder part carries at least one scraper which, during operation, clears the inner wall of the outer cylinder to preclude any caking thereat of heavy particle accumulations and promoting further conveyance of the heavy particles. The rotating inner cylinder part also carries a pusher ring which revolving moves in the collecting groove, pushes the heavy particles towards the saveall openings and alternately opens and closes these saveall openings.

A twin screen paper forming apparatus is provided having upper and lower screens moving in a first direction and wrapping around a portion of a leading forming roller positioned at the beginning of a forming zone where the upper and lower screens converge to form a twin screen. At least one stationary forming element is positioned downstream of the leading forming roller to contact with the lower screen. A water guide element is also located in the region of the forming zone approximately at the start of the forming zone. At least one forming rail contacts the upper screen and a pulp suspension discharge nozzle is positioned, to prevent preliminary draining, upstream of the location where the upper and lower screens converge.

Calendering takes place in a calendering zone which operates under pressure with application of temperature and moisture. The desired smoothness is achieved with a correspondingly long dwell time of the material web in a correspondingly long calendering zone in view of the speed of web travel. A web which is still wet is guided between parallel heatable surfaces which are arranged on both sides of the web and face each other through the web and can each be pressed against the web. The surfaces are designed to form and hold a given precise contour of the calendering zone over its full length. One surface is constructed e.g. as a casing of a heated roller and the second surface is constructed as an endless flexible belt which can be pressed in a direction towards the roller casing by means of a concave supporting element. If wished, the web can be calendered on both sides with the method.
