A storage package for compact discs and the like has a plurality of non-plastic panels including a pair of end panels and optionally at least one panel intermediate to and connecting the pair of end panels. The plurality of panels is movable between an open orientation enabling access to the contents of the package and a collapsed orientation for storage purposes, each of the panels having a pair of opposed lateral sidewalls, and the plurality of panels in the collapsed orientation defining at least one spine. A holder formed of plastic is disposed on one of the panels for receiving and maintaining a compact disc thereon. An end cap is disposed on one of the end panels or pivotally on the holder, the end cap being adapted to releasably engage the holder when the plurality of panels is in the collapsed orientation, thereby to preclude accidental movement of the plurality of panels out of the collapsed orientation.

In a storage package for a recording medium having a plurality of non-plastic panels (including a pair of end panels) and a holder formed of plastic disposed on one of the panels for receiving and maintaining a recording medium thereon, the improvement wherein (A) a given panel configured and dimensioned to removably receive printed matter therein, (B) the one panel additionally defines at least one lateral spine visible when the plurality of panels is in a collapsed orientation, and (C) the holder is releasably secured to the one panel and easily removable therefrom.

A storage package for compact discs and the like has a plurality of non-plastic panels including a pair of end panels and optionally at least one panel intermediate to and connecting the pair of end panels. A sift-proof carton which precludes small particulate matter from within the carton escaping to the exterior of the carton includes an exterior major end panel having a length in excess of the major side panel from which it extends, with the excess length being at least partially compacted and folded against the exterior major end panel by a exterior minor end panel where the exterior minor end panel extends partially over the major end panels, thereby providing sift-resistance. The exterior minor end panel preferably has a width less than that of the carton.

Tamper-evident packaging comprises an erected, filled, and closed carton having an outer surface with ink printed thereon visible from outside of the closed carton, and transparent film overwrapping the closed carton and secured to the ink on the outer carton surface in selected differentially adherent patterns. Removal of the film from the overwrapped carton also removes the ink in one of the patterns to reveal the desired pattern of deinked outer carton surface and to thereby evidence tampering with the packaging.

An easy open, reclosable carton is disclosed as well as a blank from which the carton can be formed. The structure incorporating the easy open feature is not disposed in an exposed outer surface of the carton. A major end panel of the carton includes a weakened region which is covered by a minor end panel. The minor end panel is unsealed and opened to expose the weakened region, which may then be partially or fully severed from the major end panel to form an opening into the carton though which product may be removed from the carton. The reclosable feature is provided by a tab on the minor end panel which engages a slit in the major end panel.

A slip case package is disclosed for holding a book and a computer disk. The package comprises a slip case having a pocket in the interior thereof which holds the disk and a space for the book. The pocket is formed by two panels of the slip case, one of which is in the interior of the slip case. This panel includes a section which is severable from the interior of the slip case to provide access to the disk. Severing the section is made relatively difficult by virtue of the size of the section, the limited space in the interior of the slip case and the location of an engageable structure by means of which the section is grasped for severing it. As a result, even though the book may be removed from the slip case and perused in a retail store by a prospective purchaser, removal of the disk is somewhat involved and requires actions which discourage theft as such actions may easily be observed by store personnel.
