A glenoid implant system, for example, includes a glenoid implant and a glenoid cutting guide. The glenoid implant includes a body having a concave surface with a first curved edge portion and a second curved edge portion, and an attachment surface having a concave edge portion joined to the second curved edge portion of the concave surface. The concave surface and the attachment surface are disposed at an angle. The glenoid cutting guide includes a body having a convex surface engageable with a surface of a glenoid cavity and a cutting guide surface for resecting a cutout in a glenoid cavity, the cutout having a curved edge portion corresponding to the second curved edge portion of the glenoid implant.

Implant systems for repair of a glenoid cavity

A humeral implant system, for example, includes an implant and a cutting guide system. The implant is a spherical wedge having an elongated curved upper surface having a first edge and a spaced apart second edge, a first surface having a curved upper edge joined to the first edge of the elongated curved upper surface, and a second surface having a curved upper edge joined to the second edge of the elongated curved upper surface. A lower edge of the first surface is joined to a lower edge of the second surface. The first surface and the second surface are disposed at an angle. The cutting system has a body having a first guide and a second guide for resecting a cutout in a humeral head, in which the cutout has a first surface and a second surface corresponding to the first surface and the second surface of the implant.

Implant systems for repair of a humeral head

An implant for repairing an articular cartilage defect site including an implant fixation portion with an upper segment and at least one bone interfacing segment and a top articulating portion with an articulating surface and an engagement surface. The upper segment includes a supporting plate with a first locking mechanism segment. The engagement surface includes a second locking mechanism segment. The first locking mechanism segment with at least two channels is structured to couple to the second locking mechanism segment with at least two protrusions. The at least one bone interfacing segment structured for insertion into the articular cartilage defect site. An implant including an implant fixation portion, a top articulating portion, and a locking mechanism with a first locking segment coupled to the upper segment and a second locking segment coupled to the at least one engagement surface and structured to couple to the first locking segment.

A partial resurfacing implant for use in repairing an articular cartilage defect site that includes a top articulating portion having a top surface that is configured with at least one radius of curvature to approximate the surface contour of the articular cartilage surrounding the defect site. The implant also includes a supporting plate that has a top surface and a bottom surface. The top surface is attached to the top articulating portion by a locking mechanism. The bottom surface of the supporting plate is constructed to facilitate the insertion of the implant into the defect site. Extending from the bottom surface of the supporting plate is at least one implant fixation portion. The at least one implant fixation portion is integrally connected to and is oriented about normal relative to the bottom surface. A method of repairing an articular cartilage defect with the partial joint resurfacing implant is also disclosed.

Partial joint resurfacing implant,instrumentation, and method

The present invention relates to medical devices for repairing tissue and more specifically to devices which facilitate tissue regeneration and to surgical methods for the implantation and fixation of such devices. In one embodiment, the medical device is an elongate conduit that includes a longitudinal bore extending therethrough to facilitate the transfer of blood from a vascular region of tissue to a tear or damaged area located in an avascular and/or semi-vascular region of tissue. A filament and/or filaments are attached to the conduit and are positioned to secure the conduit and fixate the adjacent tear walls in mutual engagement. In another embodiment, a series of conduits are connected via a filament and/or filaments to facilitate the implantation of multiple conduits.

Medical device for repair of tissue and method for implantation and fixation

A method of repairing an articular cartilage defect with the partial joint resurfacing implant includes surgically creating an opening in the articular cartilage defect site. The method also includes obtaining a partial resurfacing implant which is implanted into the opening. The partial resurfacing implant includes a top articulating portion, an implant fixation portion, and a locking mechanism. The implant fixation portion including an upper segment coupled to the top articulating portion and a bone interfacing segment configured to facilitate insertion into the articular cartilage defect site. The method further includes the bone interfacing segment being inserted into the opening with the top articulating portion and adjacent articular cartilage being positioned to each other to facilitate motion and load transfer over the defect site. Another method of repairing an articular cartilage defect with a partial joint resurfacing implant and a partial joint resurfacing implant are also disclosed.

Surgical instruments for use in mapping tissue defects include telescoping rulers and tubes. One of the instruments has a pointed anchoring tip for piercing tissue near the site of the defect. Another instrument has a hook for catching an anatomical landmark. Measuring portions of the rulers of both instruments include distance indicia so that a coordinate system can be established for mapping the location of the defect or of an implant at the defect site. The coordinate system can be re-established at a later time using the same fixation point for the anchoring tip and the same landmark for the hook to evaluate the clinical effects of the treatment selected. The method of using the instrument set is also described.

An articular cartilage fixation device and method for repairing and regenerating diseased or injured soft tissue such as articular cartilage of the knee, hip, shoulder, and the like. A cartilage flap or cartilage repair device is retained within the chondral or osteochondral defect for a sufficient amount of time such that the cartilage repair device can perform its function and facilitate an appropriate healing response. A plurality of biocompatible anchors are attached to a plurality of flexible members and are shaped to seat into the tissue beneath or near the defect such that the cartilage flap is retained within the defect.

Articular cartilage fixation device and method

A cannula has a flange and a body with slots extending through the entire flange and into the body. The cannula may also have a longitudinal slot extending its entire length. An obturator used with the cannula may also have a longitudinal slot extending along its length. A surgical method using these instruments includes separating lengths of suture and managing the suture by placing lengths of suture in the slots in the cannula. The cannula and obturator may be used after suture is already in place by placing the suture in the longitudinal slots and then introducing the cannula and obturator to the tissue defect site. The cannula may also be used to deliver a therapeutic implant to the tissue defect site. The instruments and method may be used in mensical surgery.

Instruments, kit and method for suture management

A device for repairing a defect in a soft tissue is disclosed, the device including a first anchor engaging a first surface of the soft tissue on a first side of the defect, the first anchor having a locking mechanism, a second anchor for engaging against a second side of the soft tissue on a second side of the defect, and a suture adjustably connecting the second anchor to the first anchor.

Soft tissue locking device

The present invention relates to an insertion system for medical devices and to surgical methods for the implantation of the same. In one embodiment, the implantation system includes a guide wire and an insertion tool. The insertion tool includes a longitudinal bore extending therethrough for receipt of the guide wire. A portion of the longitudinal bore of the insertion tool mates with the outer surface of the guide wire to rotationally lock the insertion tool and the guide wire. Additionally, the medical device to be inserted includes a longitudinal bore for receipt of the guide wire. Similarly, at least a portion of the longitudinal bore of the medical device may also mate with the outer surface of the guide wire to rotationally lock the medical device and the guide wire. The rotational locks allow for rotation of the insertion tool to result in corresponding rotation of the medical device via rotation of the guide wire. In another embodiment, the insertion system further includes a needle having an eyelet for receiving and positioning filaments attached to the medical device.
