Barrel type chair

A method of making a new furniture product, such as a chair, with front and rear legs supporting a seat frame and a U-shaped back and arm rest frame assembly. The seat frame has an inwardly extending perimetral flange and a vertical flange. The back and arm rest frame assembly has a vertical flange generally aligned with the vertical flange of the seat frame. The method includes the steps of laterally compressing a resilient plastic back shell having a curvilinear back portion and forwardly extending side portions and positioning the shell within the seat frame. The compression is than released to permit the shell to expand laterally into bearing engagement with the seat frame and the back and arm rest frame assembly vertical flanges. Then a seat is provided for the seat frame.

A spring chair has a seat frame and a base frame including an upper portion fixed to the seat frame, spaced front leg portions extending generally vertically down from said upper portions at the front of the seat portion, and base portions extending horizontally rearwardly from the leg portions to underlie the seat portion. The leg portions and base portions extend from a right angular bend portion and have lengthwisely extending openings. Unitary right angular springs inserted in the openings provide spring resilience to the bend portions which will restore them to normal position. The springs are preinserted in the linear extrusion strip which is bent to the base frame confuguration so that extrusion bending and spring bending occur simultaneously.

Spring chair frame and method of fabricating same

A chair and cushion assembly is disclosed. The assembly comprises a first frame component, a second frame component, and a back cushion. The first frame component includes a generally upright back support member of generally inverted U-shape. The second frame component includes a generally upright cushion support member of generally inverted U-shape. The cushion support member is positioned generally parallel to and spaced below the back support member. The back cushion has a pocket formed on the rear surface thereof, with the pocket receiving the cushion support member so that the back cushion is secured in place thereby.
