A luminaire globe member formed of light transmissive material and having a reflector section and a refractor section, light from a light source such as a high intensity discharge lamp initially impinging on at least major portions of the reflector section being reflected back into the interior of the globe member by prisms preferably disposed on exterior surfaces of said reflector section, refractive prisms preferably disposed on interior surfaces of the reflector section redirecting said reflected light through a focal point or loci of points directly above the light source, the light thus redirected from the reflector section being incident on surfaces of the refractor section at angles similar to angles of incidence of light rays directly emanating from the light source and directly incident on said refractor section surfaces, thereby to increase light efficiency by virtue of improved light control within the globe member.

Reflector/refractor light control luminaire

An automated method as system for verifying end-to-end connectivity in a broadcast network such as an xDSL network including a plurality of elements such as ATM switches coupled to a subscriber modem. The method and system includes determining each of the elements in the network and establishing a communication channel with a corresponding interface of each element to generate test commands and elicit responsive data. Service logic is applied to determine the location of a fault and display the same on a Graphical User Interface (GUI) in a suitable format such as a Visual Word Document (VWD).

Plastic globe for use in lighting applications and method of making same

An optical unit is provided for use in a suspended aisle luminaire. The optical unit comprises a plurality of metalized reflecting components which are operative to produce a uniform illuminance level along vertical surfaces of an aisle while minimizing glare toward workers in the aisle. Secondly, the optical unit includes a plurality of non-metalized reflecting components which are operative to illuminate the vertical and horizontal surfaces of the aisle. Additionally, the optical unit may further comprise a plurality of refracting components which are operative to illuminate vertical surfaces near the luminaire and reduce dark spots on the vertical surfaces.

An improved luminaire assembly having an HID lighting source with an upper reflector portion and a lower refractor portion. This luminaire assembly provides downlight control and glare control properties for a concentrated, narrowly spaced downwardly directed illumination. The downward light control below horizontal to uniformly distribute downward directing the light rays below horizontal to angle in the range between 30.degree. to 50.degree. vertical.

A luminaire assembly which is adapted for easy cleanability. The luminaire assembly includes a housing portion having a substantially smooth outer surface and which is further adapted to receive and enclose a ballast assembly. An optical assembly is further adapted to be affixed to the housing portion in a substantially sealed, water-tight relationship to define an internal chamber to receive and enclose a lamp. The optical assembly has an inner surface and an outer surface contiguous with the housing portion outer surface and has an opening defined therein. A removable door has an inner surface and an outer surface adapted to be affixed in a sealed relationship with the optical assembly opening when in a closed position. The door is further provided with a breathing aperture of a predetermined lateral dimension for permitting ambient air to enter and leave the internal chamber. The outer surfaces of the optical assembly and removable door have the characteristic of shutting water and accumulated contaminants without leaving residue thereon so as to provide easy cleanability. The optical assembly further incorporates specially designed inner and external optics necessary to compensate for the reduced uplight which is dictated by the three-dimensional design of the optical assembly.
