A display device includes an electronic paper display and a ground electrode. The electronic paper display is imageable by receiving charges on a charge receiving layer of the electronic paper display. The ground electrode is opposite to the charge receiving layer of the electronic paper display and exposed at an edge of the display device.

Display device

Embodiments of the present invention are directed to systems and methods for writing on electronic paper ('e-paper') and display platforms implemented with e-paper. In one aspect, a system for writing information to electronic paper includes a writing module and an erasing unit connected to the writing module. The erasing unit is configured to erase information stored in the electronic paper. The system also includes a writing unit connected to the writing module and is configured to write information to the electronic paper. Information is written to the electronic paper by orienting the writing module so that the electronic paper passes the erasing unit prior to passing the writing unit.

An imager includes an ion-emitting unit and a conveying structure to move a passive e-paper display medium in a first orientation along a travel path and to releasably support the display medium in spaced relation to receive airborne ions from the ion-emitting unit for imaging operations.

E-paper imager

A device includes an imager and a control portion. The imager is to selectively image media as an imaging job in association with a job ticket. The control portion is to at least receive a unique ID associated with the media and, based on the unique ID, to at least partially determine the job ticket and to at least partially determine a scope of content of the imaging job.

A belt drive includes a belt and at least one pair of spaced apart rails extending in a first direction and defining a gap. The belt is aligned with the gap and to be driven in an endless loop with the belt including a first movable portion external to the gap on a first side of the rails and a second movable portion biased to be recessed within the gap on an opposite second side of the rails. A rewritable display medium is releasably engageable in a sandwiched position between a slidable contact surface of the rails and a first segment of the second movable portion external to the gap to move the display medium in the first direction for contact-less imaging via a unit spaced from the rails.

An ion writing system includes a writing unit and a calibration module. The writing unit includes an array of selectable electrode nozzles to direct ions onto passive e-paper to form a pattern of dots on the e-paper. The calibration module calibrates the writing unit for image optical intensity via information from a sensor.

One example of a mobile imaging device includes a single ion source, a ground connector, and an interface. The single ion source is to erase and write to an electronic paper display by depositing charges onto an imaging surface of the electronic paper display as the imaging device and the electronic paper display are moved relative to each other. The electronic paper display includes a ground return path. The ground connector maintains an electrical connection to the ground return path as the imaging device and the electronic paper display are moved relative to each other during erasing or writing to the electronic paper display. The interface is for transferring data between the imaging device and a computing device.

Mobile imaging device

One example provides a display device. The display device includes an electronic paper display imageable by receiving charges on an imaging surface of the electronic paper display. The display device includes a first ground electrode opposite to a first portion of the imaging surface of the electronic paper display and a second ground electrode opposite to a second portion of the imaging surface of the electronic paper display. Writing to the second portion of the electronic paper display is selectively disableable.

A writing device to write on a media, which includes a passive electronic paper display and a storage medium. The writing device comprises a first component to at least read the storage medium and a second component to at least write to the electronic paper display during relative movement between the second component and the media.

E-paper display writer

An imaging device for a passive e-paper display includes an erasing head to emit ions in a first polarity followed by an opposite second polarity after a first time period. The passive e-paper display is mountable on a support in a spaced apart relationship relative to the erasing head and by which the emitted ions are receivable onto substantially the entire surface of the passive e-paper display. Relative movement occurs between the support and the erasing head at least some of the time during the emission of ions from the erasing head.

A display device includes an electronic paper display imageable by receiving charges on an imaging surface of the electronic paper display, a ground electrode, and a ground access stripe. The ground electrode is opposite to the imaging surface of the electronic paper display. The ground access stripe is on a surface of the display device and electrically coupled to the ground electrode.

A coater assembly includes an array of side-by-side selectively closable slot portions to control pressurized fluid flow onto a substrate during relative movement between the coater assembly and the substrate to form a coating pattern on the substrate. A control module produces the coating pattern via control over selective independent closure of the slot portions based on a mapping matrix of individually addressable coatable elements.

Provided in one example herein is a three-dimensional ('3D') printing method, comprising: (A) forming a layer comprising particles comprising a thermoplastic; (B) disposing over at least a portion of the layer a coalescent agent, which is radiation-absorbing and has a thermal decomposition temperature lower than or equal a melting temperature of the thermoplastic; (C) forming an object slice of a 3D object by exposing the coalescent agent to a radiant energy such that at least some of the coalescent agent thermally decomposes while causing at least some of the particles to fuse, wherein the object slice comprises the fused particles, and wherein the thermally decomposed coalescent agent is not radiation-absorbing; and (D) repeating (A) to (C) to form the 3D object comprising multiple object slices bound depth-wise to one another.

A transaction medium comprises a non-e-paper portion and a passive e-paper display portion to display a first expression of an authentication element in a secure representation. The first expression is related to a second expression of the authentication element, wherein a comparison of the first expression and the second expression determines authentication.
