A system and method for ascertaining the concentration of a preselected target substance, characterized by a mitigated tendency for yielding results distorted by a departure from a state of calibration, i.e., by 'drift', which drift is ordinarily caused by temperature and humidity variations; drift-mitigation is achieved by exposure of a target substance to a metal oxide semiconductor material, the temperature of a heating element operatively associated with said material being cycled between a low-temperature interval and a high-temperature interval, in which latter interval the material's temperature is raised to a level at or above the minimum temperature for rapid formation of one or more oxides of the target substance, the oxide formation taking place in a sufficiently short time that the conductivity is reflective of a transient signal amplitude in a brief interval of time, such that the external factors causing drift do not have sufficient opportunity to distort the concentration determination.

A portable fuel dilution meter and method includes a plurality of sample bottles each with a lid securable thereto and an absorbent material in the bottle. A housing includes a sample bottle receptacle and a hinged head unit over the receptacle including at least a first needle piercing the lid of a sample bottle loaded into the housing receptacle and extending into the headspace of the sample bottle when the head is closed. A vapor sensor is fluidly coupled to the first needle for analyzing vapors in the headspace of the sample bottle.

Apparatus and method for high pressure abrasive fluid injection

A method and system are provided for injecting high pressure abrasive fluid into an abrasive jet tool. The method and system comprise a slurry tank connected to an abrasive hopper and a low pressure abrasive pump for circulating abrasive slurry and transferring the slurry to a high pressure vessel. The method and system also contain a high pressure non-abrasive pump connected to a high pressure valve for pressurizing the high pressure vessel prior to injecting abrasive fluid into the abrasive jet tool.

A wireless time-of-flight distance measurement device and/or a motion detector is used at each of a plurality of stations in a wireless network in an enclosed facility to accurately locate a badge-wearing person near the station. The location, badge number and time of detection are transmitted through the network and stored in a computer memory. In a health care facility, hand-washing detectors are located at some of the stations and caused to energize a hand-wash status indicator light on the badge when the wearer has washed his or her hands. The light remains 'on' for only a certain length of time, but will be extinguished sooner by a monitor device near each patient when the health care worker leaves the vicinity of the patient. These events also are transmitted and stored so that a timed record of each worker's hand-washing and visits to patients is created.

An apparatus for concentrating a vaporous substance, which comprises: a sorbent material capable of capturing a vaporous substance; a first housing in which the sorbent material is located, a heating element proximate the exterior of the housing; a second housing defining a chamber within which the first housing resides, the first housing being located in said chamber such that there is a space permitting gas flow between the outside of the first housing and the inside of the second housing; and a pump capable of causing an exhaust gas to flow through the space in contact with the outside of the first housing; and methods for making and utilizing such apparatus.
