A communication pathway () can be established between physically collocated narrowband () and broadband () devices. The narrowband device () can identify a communication channel. A transmission frequency used by the broadband device () can be spectrally-proximate to a reception frequency used by the narrowband device () in a frequency range associated with the communication channel, resulting in interference of the narrowband device's () reception when the broadband device () is transmitting and the narrowband device () is receiving concurrently. The narrowband device () can instruct the broadband device () to switch to a transmission spectrum block that is spectrally separated from the reception spectrum block of the communication channel to minimize interference between the devices when the narrowband device () handles a call assignment.

Collaborative interference mitigation between physically-proximate narrowband and broadband communication devices

A portable radio provides operation in LTE and LMR radio bands. Improved filtering in the LTE receive path is provided through the use of a linear duplexer and a SAW filter. The SAW filter is implemented as a duplexer with one port terminated to provide a filter for the LTE RX path. The linear duplexer and SAW filter provide filtering for an LMR TX signal and an LTE TX signal which are simultaneously present at an LTE antenna of the radio. The linearity of the linear duplexer which reduces LTE TX and LMR TX signal levels combined with the selectivity of the SAW filter prevents intercept intermodulation in the LTE RX path.

Filtering apparatus and method for multiband radio

A method for transmitting data in a single-frequency network in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network includes receiving media for broadcast in a broadcast area of a plurality of broadcast areas associated with a single-frequency network, wherein the broadcast area comprises a plurality of cells; identifying a subset of defined broadcast resources for broadcasting the media to the broadcast area; broadcasting the media to the broadcast area using the subset of defined broadcast resources; and broadcasting a null pattern on the subset of defined broadcast resources in adjacent broadcast areas to the broadcast area. An associated LTE network and broadcast controller are also described.

Single frequency network broadcast for mission-critical services on LTE

Methods and apparatus are provided for mitigating interference between spectrally distinct wireless communication networks employing co-located, collaborating radios. A first base station is in a first network and communicates with a first radio within a first frequency range, and a second base station is in a second network and communicates with a second radio in a second frequency range. The first and second radios are geographically co-located, for example, within a public safety vehicle. The first radio determines a maximum level of interference it will accept based on current operational parameters, and communicates a corresponding threshold value to the second radio through a data link. The second radio sends a request to its base station to employ interim scheduling constraints governing uplink transmissions from the second radio, to thereby limit out of band emissions received by the first radio to a range that is less than the threshold interference level.

Methods and apparatus for mitigating interference between co-located collaborating radios

A method, device, and system for establishing and maintaining a multicast group call. The method includes monitoring one or more link parameters for each of a plurality of communication devices associated with the multicast group call. The method further includes selecting, for each of the plurality of communication devices, a sector from a plurality of permitted sectors, the selected sector providing an associated highest signal strength for the communication device and forming a multicast communication zone based on the selected sectors. The method further proceeds with calculating a signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) for each communication device based on the formed multicast communication zone, identifying a communication device with a lowest SINR, updating a spectral efficiency metric relative to the formed multicast communication zone based on the lowest SINR, and establishing the multicast group call when the updated spectral efficiency metric meets a minimum expected spectral efficiency metric.

Method and apparatus for establishing and maintaining a spectrally efficient multicast group call

A system and method are disclosed for determining a level of quality of a communications medium having an indeterminate delay. The communications medium communicatively couples a transmitting station and a receiving station. The transmitting station transmits over the communications medium a measurement sequence including a synchronization sequence followed by a measurement sample. The transmitted measurement sample has a predetermined beginning point, which is identified by the transmitted synchronization sequence. The receiving station receives over the communications medium the measurement sequence including the synchronization sequence followed by the measurement sample. The receiving station determines from the received synchronization sequence the beginning point of the received measurement sample. The transmitted measurement sample and the received measurement sample are then compared according to respective beginning points to determine the level of quality of the communications medium.

Time synchronization of human speech samples in quality assessment system for communications system

An open-architecture digital cellular base station readily adapted to support communication over a variety of air interface standards is disclosed herein. The base station includes a wideband digital transceiver system having transmit and receive sections. Within the transmit section, an input line interface operates to couple a plurality of input information signals onto a time-division multiplexed (TDM) transmit bus. A plurality of digital transmitter modules are coupled to the TDM transmit bus, each of the digital transmitter modules generating a set of digital baseband signals in response to a corresponding set of the plurality of input information signals. The set of digital information signals are applied to a wideband summation network disposed to sequentially add the set of digital information signals into a wideband data stream. A wideband transmitter then generates a wideband transmission waveform using the wideband data stream. The receive section includes a wideband receiver for: (i) receiving an incident composite signal, and (ii) generating a digital representation of the incident composite signal in the form of a wideband digital data stream applied to a wideband data bus. A plurality of digital receiver modules are coupled to the wideband data bus. Each digital receiver module functions to recover a set of digital output signals from the wideband digital data stream, as well as to multiplex the set of digital signals onto a TDM receive bus. An output line interface serves to distribute the digital output signals among a plurality of output signal lines.
