A portable air filtration apparatus capable of rapid and efficient room air turnover and recirculation of filtered and decontaminated air with eradication of both microorganisms and biological agents. The invention relates to a compact device that can be used in ultra-clean air purification using a multi stage electrostatic precipitation and air filtration with disinfection and eradication of both microorganisms and biological agents by the application of ultraviolet light radiation. It can be used in any application where space, lower cost or ultra-fine particulate filtering is needed; such as in clean rooms and surgical suites. The device is extremely efficient for purifying contaminated air from entrained dust and organic substances without using chemicals and physical filters, and it is hygienic and fireproof. The device including its multi stage electrostatic precipitator with the filter, connecting, releasing tubes and the fan is easy to clean and can be portable.

Multi stage disinfecting air cleaner

An FGC conditioning agent injection-control system, where conditioning agent over- or under-injection can be prevented while maximizing a precipitator's performance. The injection rate is typically regulated using feed forward signal proportional to the coal flow, which could be represented by the boiler load augmented by a feedback from the voltage control and electrical conditions in the ESP, sulfur dioxide emissions signaling any changes in the coal quality, opacity monitor data, and other parameters. Both the feed forward and the feedback information and signals from the existing injection skids are analyzed, and the optimal injection rate for the current conditions is determined. With fast, continuous and automatic sampling and analysis, the system responds quickly as each parameter changes, recalculating the optimal injection rate and automatically sends the new injection set-point to the injection skid.

Flue gas conditioning system controller

An emissions reduction stack includes a conditioning section, collector section utilizing a Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP), and output section. A chemically active aqueous stream is introduced into an incoming process stream in order to saturate the stream and produce a fog stream wherein water is condensed on the surface of particulates. The process of condensation increases the efficiency of the particulate filtration process conducted by the WESP.

Wet electrostatic precipitator and related methods

An emissions reduction slack includes a conditioning section, collector section utilizing a Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP), and output section. A chemically active aqueous stream is introduced into an incoming process stream in order to saturate the stream and produce a fog stream wherein water is condensed on the surface of particulates. The process of condensation increases the efficiency of the particulate filtration process conducted by the WESP.

A system for enhancing the efficiency of an electrostatic precipitator in a flue gas stream that withdraws a selected amount of combustion gas from a main flue gas stream at a location downstream of the electrostatic precipitator; typically heats the selected amount of combustion gas to a predetermined temperature; passes the selected amount of combustion gas through a catalyst to convert sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide producing a mixture of flue gas enriched with sulfur trioxide; and returns the mixture of the flue gas enriched with the sulfur trioxide back into the main flue gas stream at a point upstream of the electrostatic precipitator. A controller can control fans, heaters and dampers as well as make computations as the required amount of sulfur trioxide needed.

System and method for flue gas conditioning

A hybrid wet electrostatic precipitator for collecting sub-micron and nano-particulate material. The collector can be made up of three concentric tubes or pipes with an internally formed gas path communicating between an inlet and an outlet. A first collector and discharging zone can be provided in the gas path to create a corona discharge to charge particles and to collect particulate. A second collector can be formed by a porous wall which can act as a filtration device. A third collector can be formed by two or more of the concentric circular tubes, one porous and one solid, with a zone of uniform electric field between them. The porous tube can be either the inner tube or the middle tube. A liquid pool can be placed between the first and third collectors to provide chemical treatment of the gas flow or simply filtration as the gas passes through. A high-tension voltage supply can be used to supply a discharge voltage capable of generating a corona discharge into the flow in the first zone. The corona discharge can cause the fine particulate to become charged and to be captured on the collecting electrode in a zone of uniform field. A second (or the same) high-tension voltage supply can create the uniform electric field.

Hybrid wet electrostatic collector

A compact, hybrid particulate and gas collector that can be used in an ultra-clean air purification, vehicle emissions control system, gas turbine, or in any other application where space and lower cost is important or in applications where sub-micron and nano-particulate filtering is needed such as in clean rooms and surgical suites. A gas flow enters the device in a first chamber and can be immediately exposed to a high-tension corona discharge electric field which typically results in a strong ionic flow by charging and collecting the incoming effluent (oil mist, soot particles, etc.). Subsequently, the charged flow enters a second zone of high-tension uniform electric field that causes the remaining charged particles to migrate to one of the charged electrodes. One of the electrodes can be made of porous filter material that allows the cleaned gas to flow into an exit zone also containing a high-tension uniform electric field where the remaining effluent can be collected prior to the ultra-clean gas exiting either to ambient air or being re-circulated to be used again by the engine. In some embodiments a dielectric barrier discharge surface can be provided to convert harmful compounds to more desirable substances. Alternate embodiments can include a third zone containing a second substantially uniform electric field as well as coating the porous surface with a catalyst to convert undesirable compounds. Any cross-section of the device may be used. Further treatment of the dust free flow with ultraviolet light, an x-ray or a radiation can be used to kill micro-organisms.

Space efficient hybrid air purifier

Space efficient hybrid collector

A multi-stage collector for multi-pollutant control that contains alternating narrow and wide sections with glow discharge electrodes in some narrow sections, a uniform electric field in wide sections for collecting particles charged by the glow discharge and streamer discharge electrodes in wide or narrow sections that convert and destroy harmful gaseous pollutants such as SO, NOand volatile organic compounds as well as convert heavy metals such as mercury into a particulate form. Steady state streamer discharge is supported by non-pulsed power supply. The streaming discharge can convert the polluting gases into nitric and sulfuric acid which can be removed by combining it with ammonia to form solid salts.

Multi-stage collector for multi-pollutant control

A multi-stage collector of the type used to collect particles from industrial gas. The collector can contain multiple narrow and wide zones formed by a plurality of parallel corrugated plates. Contained in the narrow zones can be elongated electrodes with sharp leading and/or trailing edges. These electrodes can provide a non-uniform electric field near their sharp edges leading to corona discharge. The corona discharge causes particulate matter in the gas flow to become charged. The region in narrow zones away from the sharp edges of the electrodes resembles a parallel plate capacitor with relatively uniform electric field. In this region, particles can be collected on the plates and on the electrode. Wide regions can contain barrier filters (bag filters) with conductive surfaces. The collector can also be used to clean inlet gas in gasification plants and to collect re-usable materials from a gas stream.

Multi-stage collector and method of operation

A multi-stage particulate matter collector of the type used to collect particles from waste industrial gas. The collector can contain multiple narrow and wide zones formed by a plurality of parallel corrugated plates. Contained in the narrow zones are elongated electrodes with sharp leading and/or trailing edges. Multi-stage particulate matter collector

A method and apparatus for the selective control of the sulfur trioxide concentration in flue gases, to enhance the ash removal efficiency of electrostatic precipitators, which includes supporting a catalyst in the path of the flue gas, positioning temperature modifying means in communication with the catalyst, passing the flue gas by the catalyst and selectively varying the temperature of the catalyst, with the temperature modifying means, to vary the amount of catalytic conversion of SO.sub.2 in the flue gas to SO.sub.3.

Catalytic sulfur trioxide flue gas conditioning

An electrostatic precipitator, and more particularly an electrostatic precipitator having a sets of improved plate type electrodes having opposing surfaces defining collecting and ionization zones therebetween, and with one of the electrodes in each pair of electrodes including a corona source thereon.

Electrostatic precipitator

A heat exchange module comprises a rotating-wheel type regenerative heat exchanger unit having a plurality of heat exchange elements mounted in baskets through the volume of the heat exchanger wheel. The heat exchanger wheel rotates about its axis so that the heat exchange elements are heated by a hot gas flow over a portion of the rotation, and transfer the heat to an air flow over another portion of the rotation. At least some of the heat exchange elements include phase change materials, such as salts, that absorb heat while maintaining a constant temperature. The phase change materials narrow the range of temperatures reached by the heat exchange elements located at various positions of the heat exchanger wheel. The phase change materials prevent excessively low temperatures that can result in condensation of corrosive acids on the surfaces of the heat exchange elements. They can also stabilize the heat exchange elements in particularly desirable temperature ranges for the operation of catalysts coated onto the heat exchange elements.

Temperature-stabilized heat exchanger

A sulfur trioxide conditioning system includes a catalytic converter that converts a portion of the sulfur dioxide in a flow of flue gas to sulfur trioxide. The catalytic converter includes a catalyst support, which is disposed across at least a portion of the cross section of a main duct from a burner to a heat recovery apparatus, and a catalyst on the catalyst support. The amount of the catalyzed surface exposed to the flow of flue gas is selectively varied to control the conversion of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide.
