The invention relates to an improvement in a drum rotating apparatus which comprises an input gear, a drive train for selectively drivingly rotating the input gear about its axis in a first and in a second direction, a transfer gear meshing with the input gear and driven thereby, a shaft rotatably driven by the transfer gear and having teeth thereon, an output gear meshing with the teeth on the shaft and driven thereby and a drum secured to the output gear to rotate therewith. The improvement comprises a normally engaged coupling intermediate the transfer gear and the shaft and hydraulic disengaging apparatus which serves to disengage the normally engaged coupling to allow the drum to rotate unencumbered by the input gear and the drive train.

Winch drum hydraulic disconnect

A towing winch system with fluid pressure actuated power input and winch input clutches disposed serially between the power take-off and cable drum. A controlled but variable reduced fluid pressure from a source is applied to the winch input clutches and full fluid pressure is applied to the power input clutch through a valve which opens in response to and when the pressure applied to the winch input clutches exceeds a manually selectable low or high value for inching or non-inching operation, respectively.

Adjustable sequence valve for towing winch hydraulic controls

A lubrication system is adapted for continuously lubricating a loose spline connection wherein a collar connects to a pair of shafts and axially spaced bearings rotatably mounting the collar and shafts in a closed housing. The collar is spline connected to the shafts and includes a lubricant chamber intermediate the spaced shaft ends fed by an axial lubricant passage across a control orifice in one of the shafts. Rotation of the shafts and collar causes lubricant entering the chamber to be centrifugally discharged through a standpipe extending part way into the chamber from a collar wall and thereby flow to the bearings.
