The mower attachment includes a drive subassembly which is adapted to be detachably connected to the front axle of the tractor. Specifically, the drive subassembly is adapted to be connected to downwardly opening channel members rigidly secured to transverse, oscillating front axle member. The mower attachment also includes a mower subassembly which is connected to the drive subassembly by a draft link structure. The drive subassembly includes a clutch pulley rotatably mounted on a clutch pulley support bracket which is in turn pivotally connected to a frame part of the drive subassembly so that it may swing between clutching and declutching positions. The clutch pulley support bracket is connected to a clutch control lever on the tractor by a disconnectable clutch control linkage. The drive subassembly also includes an idler pulley disposed on an oblique axis forwardly of the clutch pulley. The clutch and idler pulleys lie in planes which are transverse to one another intersecting on a longitudinally extending line which passes through both pulleys (in at least one adjusted position of the clutch pulley support bracket). A drive belt cooperatively engages the idler and clutch pulleys as well as a drive pulley on a power take-off shaft from the tractor engine and a pulley on the mower subassembly. The clutch pulley is disposed between portions of the drive belt which extend rearwardly from the idler pulley thus permitting a compact arrangement of components in the drive assembly. The mower subassembly includes blades mounted on driven spindles which include pulleys at their upper ends. A second belt is disposed in driving relation to pulleys connected to the spindles. A braking mechanism is included in the mower subassembly and is connected to the clutch operating linkage at the drive subassembly by a flexible cable.

A grass catcher for a riding mower, comprising a stationary subassembly adapted to be secured to the rear of the ride-on vehicle and a bag support frame mounted for pivotal movement on the stationary subassembly. A grass collector bag is carried by the bag support frame, and a cover member is hingedly connected to one side of the bag support frame. The pivotal connection between the bag support frame and the stationary subassembly on which it is pivotally mounted is of hollow ring-like shape whereby to permit the end of the stationary grass delivery tube to extend through the ring-like pivotal connection and into overlying discharging position relative to the grass collector bag carried by the pivotally mounted bag support frame. A handle mounted on the bag support frame permits the operator to pivotally swing the bag support frame and the grass collector bag carried thereby to dumping position about the pivotal support for the frame, the bag support frame also at the same time pivoting about the stationary grass delivery tube. During the dumping operation the cover member which is normally seated in closed position on the bag support frame swings open about a hinge connection of the cover to the bag support frame, whereby to permit the contents of the grass collector bag to discharge during the dumping operation. When the pivotally mounted bag support frame is returned to normal grass collecting position, the cover member returns to closed seated position on the bag support frame.

Side-to-side leveling of a mower is facilitated by a two part lever connected to a ground roller axle. The ground rollers are rotatably mounted on a single horizontal transverse axle which in turn is connected to the rear of the mower housing through a pair of laterally spaced arms secured to a transverse rock shaft. One of the arms includes a first part rigidly secured to the transverse rock shaft and a second part which is pivotally connected to the transverse rock shaft and connected to the first part by a bolt and nut. The part rigidly secured to the rock shaft includes a slot through which the bolt extends which permits the second arm part to be angularly adjusted about the rock shaft axis relative to the first arm part. This permits one end of the roller axle to be adjusted vertically relative to the other end.
