A method of assembling an integrated drive generator includes the steps of providing a bore in a center housing portion, pressing a bearing liner into the bore, with a portion of the bearing liner extending proud of a surface of the center plate, and machining the surface around and adjacent to the bearing liner to provide a machined surface parallel to the surface.

An oil level sensor comprises a body having a probe extending away from a nominal body portion. The probe receives a resistance thermal device and extends for a height away from the nominal surface. The probe has an outer dimension. The ratio of the outer dimension to the height is between 0.1 and 0.2. The RTD is connected to lead wires through splices, the lead wires leaving the nominal housing. A fastener tab extends away from the nominal body, and generally perpendicularly to the probe. The lead wires are anchored within a chamber, which is filled with a potting material.

An integrated drive generator includes a housing having generator. Center and input housing portions are secured to one another. The center housing portion is sealed relative to the generator input housing portion with seal plates. A hydraulic unit is mounted to the center housing portion. The center housing portion includes first and second parallel surfaces. A machined surface is parallel to and recessed into one of the first and second surfaces in an area of the hydraulic unit. A method of assembling an integrated drive generator includes the steps of providing a bore in a center housing portion, pressing a bearing liner into the bore, with a portion of the bearing liner extending proud of a surface of the center plate, and machining the surface around and adjacent to the bearing liner to provide a machined surface parallel to the surface.

An integrated drive generator includes a pump plate having first and second parallel faces defining a first thickness. A passage extends between the first and second faces through the pump plate. Webbing is provided in the passage having a second thickness less than the first thickness. The webbing provides a first volume and the passage provides a second volume. A ratio of the second volume to the first volume is 20.8.

A gear assembly includes first and second shafts concentric with one another. First and second gears are respectively provided by the first and second shafts and are arranged adjacent to one another. A biasing assembly cooperates with at least one of the first and second shafts to maintain a desired gap between the first and second gears.

A rotor assembly for an electromechanical device includes a molded wire support. The wire support has a body including a first side spaced from a second side and a hole extending through the sides and configured to receive a shaft. The body includes a wall about the hole extending to the first side. At least one end turn support extends outwardly from the wall and is configured to support wires. A molded pocket extends into the wall from the second side without penetrating through to the first side.

A seal cartridge for a generator includes a housing which defines an annular cavity. An axial load spring and a seal ring within the annular cavity such that the seal ring is biased by the axial load spring.

A cylinder block for an axial piston pump or motor is formed from a steel material. The block includes a plurality of bores that each have an internal bore surface of a predefined final material surface finish. The bores are subjected to various machining and heat treating processes to provide a bore surface formed from the same material as the cylinder block, and which has the desired final surface finish. Pistons are mounted within each of the bores for axial movement relative to the cylinder block. Each of the pistons is formed from a steel material and has an exterior surface that is in sliding contact with the internal bore surface. The subject cylinder block is processed to provide a steel-to-steel interface between the bore and piston and eliminates the need for liners to be specially formed or installed within each piston bore.

A method of increasing service life of an oil comprises placing a quantity of oil within a circuit, and placing a filter in the circuit, the filter having surfaces including interstices which contain a quantity of a liquid additive at a time of placement in the circuit, the additive being washed from the interstices of the filter into solution with the oil during filling and operation of the circuit to form a mixture of the oil and additive which reduces the formation of metallo-organic soaps. The oil may be an synthetic ester based oil or a mineral oil. The additive either reacts with an organic acid formed from hydrolysis of the oil during operation of the circuit to neutralize the acid, or alternatively the additive coats metallic wear particles formed during operation of the circuit so that organic acids formed from hydrolysis of the oil during operation of the circuit cannot attach thereto. A filter in accordance with the instant invention comprises an input for receiving oil and an output for discharging oil, and an element through which oil flows from the input to the output with the element having surfaces including interstices which contain a quantity of liquid additive at a time of placement in the circuit, the quantity of liquid additive being washed from the interstices of the filter into solution with the oil during filling and operation of an oil circuit to form a mixture of the oil and additive which reduces the formation of metallo-organic soaps.

Inoperability due to solenoid freeze-up, electrical malfunction or human error in a mechanical disconnect system for disconnecting first and second shafts includes a disconnect plunger, a first spring for urging the disconnect plunger toward the first shaft whereby the disconnect plunger causes the first shaft to disengage the second shaft when the disconnect plunger is in contact with the first shaft, a solenoid having an armature and windings and a solenoid plunger coupled to the solenoid armature. A second spring urges the solenoid plunger into engagement with the disconnect plunger to thereby prevent movement of the disconnect plunger into engagement with the first shaft. The solenoid windings are controllably energized to move the solenoid armature such that the solenoid plunger is retracted from the disconnect plunger. An expandable material is disposed in a confined volume of space between the disconnect plunger and the solenoid whereby the expandable material expands when heated to a certain temperature to in turn move the solenoid plunger, solenoid armature and solenoid windings away from the disconnect plunger and thereby cause the disconnect plunger to contact the first shaft under the influence of the first spring.
