A socket assembly includes a photovoltaic package having a substrate with a photovoltaic cell and contact pads electrically connected to the photovoltaic cell. A dielectric housing removably receives the photovoltaic package. The dielectric housing holds contacts in mating engagement with the contact pads. A metal shell receives the housing and the photovoltaic package, and the metal shell has a window providing access to the photovoltaic cell.

An electrical connector includes a body having a terminating end and a mating end. A power contact extends from the mating end of the body. The power contact is configured to be engaged by a power contact of a mating connector connected to a predominantly capacitive load. An auxiliary contact extends from the mating end of the body. The auxiliary contact is coupled in series with a resistor. The auxiliary contact configured to be engaged by an auxiliary contact of the mating connector. The auxiliary contact in series with the resistor is configured to engage the mating connector before the power contact to resist a surge current due to the capacitive load from the mating connector.

A receptacle assembly includes a housing having a front mating face and receptacles configured to receive plugs therein through the front mating face, where the plugs have connectivity pins attached thereto. The receptacle module includes connectivity sensor areas associated with the receptacles, where each connectivity sensor area is positioned adjacent the corresponding receptacle. Each connectivity sensor area has a first connectivity sensor and a second connectivity sensor that is electrically isolated from the first connectivity sensor when the plug is disconnected from the receptacle. Both the first and second connectivity sensors are configured to be engaged by different connectivity pins of the plug when the plug is received in the corresponding receptacle to form a sense circuit.

A plug assembly includes a body extending between a mating end and a cable end. A sensor assembly is supported by the body that has an integrated circuit component having a first pad and a second pad. The sensor assembly also has a first sensor probe mounted to the first pad and a second sensor probe mounted to the second pad.

An electrical connector includes a socket that is configured to provide a current path between a connection terminal and a contact pin inserted into the socket during a standard connection. A slider component of the electrical connector is configured to move relative to the socket to make contact with the contact pin and provide a current path between the connection terminal and the contact pin during a fault condition connection.

A relay assembly includes a coil and a stationary contact having a first contact surface. At least a portion of the first contact surface defines a wiping contact surface. The relay assembly also includes a movable contact having a second contact surface defining a contact area that engages the first contact surface. The movable contact is moved along a driving path toward the stationary contact when current is passed through the coil, and the movable contact is moved along a rebound path different from the driving path after initial impact with the stationary contact. The stationary contact is oriented or shaped with respect to the movable contact such that the movable contact engages, and wipes against, at least a portion of the wiping contact surface when the movable contact is moved along the rebound path.

Methods and apparatus for reducing bounce between relay contacts

In order to reduce acoustic noise, an electromagnetic relay ( ) includes an insert or bump ( ) located between the relay armature ( ) and the relay core ( ). The insert is flexible and can be mounted on the armature. The insert ( ) reduces noise by decelerating the armature ( ) at impact with the core ( ).
