A restorable gang apparatus for telephone books which includes a main frame having a top shelf and spaced end plates depending downwardly generally at opposite ends of the shelf with one or more telephone books being normally storable on the bottom side of the shelf. A series of book mounting units are suspended in side by side relation from beneath the top shelf between the spaced end plates when in a storage position. Each unit is comprised of the following elements. An inclined track hanger means suspends the inclined track in an inclined position where an outer end of the track is more elevated than an inner or rearward end of the track. Telephone book carrier structure is disposed beneath and mounted on the telephone book carrier structure. Means are provided for mounting the telephone book onto the telephone book carrier structure. A truck having slidable bearing means is mounted on the track for back and forth movement on the inclined track. Rotatable pivot means suspend the telephone book carrier structure from the truck. A handle is operatively connected to the telephone book carrier structure and pullable in a direction to cause the truck to move upwardly on the track and for placement of the rotatable pivot means in adjacency to a front edge of the table top and for then enabling the telephone book carrier structure to rotate on its rotatable pivot means for positioning at least a portion of the telephone book carrier structure in overlying relation to the table top for placing the telephone book carrier structure and the telephone book in a viewing position.

Restorable gang apparatus for telephone book binders

A method and apparatus for permanently binding sheets of paper into a cover inexpensively and quickly is disclosed. The cover has a top and bottom leaf with a center fold therebetween and a folding score on each leaf near the center fold. An elongated strip of heat reactivatible adhesive is applied to the inner surface of one or both of the leaves between the folding score on the leaf and the center fold. A plurality of sheets are positioned adjacent the strip or strips of adhesive and the entire assembly is then fed into a laminator machine which heats and presses the heat reactivatible adhesive to cause it to flow back towards the sheets. As the adhesive cools the ends of the sheets are held in intimate contact between the leaves near the center fold.

Heat reactivatible adhesive book binding

A side-opening composite looseleaf binding apparatus for attachment to a backbone of a looseleaf binder cover. The binding apparatus comprises a one-piece molded plastic base having a planar floor portion, a stationary wall portion, a hinged wall portion separated from the stationary wall portion by a floor portion, and wherein the hinged wall portion includes an integral plastic hinge. A one-piece stamped metal finger or ring unit is provided having a strip portion connected to the hinge wall portion and a plurality of curved fingers or rings extending from the strip portion. In a closed position, the curved fingers have ends which are adjacent to and below an upper edge of the stationary wall. A spring member provides an opening bias for the finger unit and a locking member locks the finger portions of the finger unit in a closed position.

Composite looseleaf mechanism

A method is disclosed for producing a longitudinally extending curved finger binding made of plastic material. The fingers are arched transversely to their longitudinal axis to provide an arched contour with a resulting increase in stiffness. A blank from which the binding is formed is heated to a temperature sufficient to soften the plastic blank. Fingers of the blank are curled and a backbone portion of the blank is curved into a closed circular plastic binding formation by use of a guide form. The guide form simultaneously curves each of the fingers transverse to their longitudinal axis.

Method for producing a transversely curved finger binding

Apparatus and method for the manufacture of adhesive covers in which cover material is conveyed through an apparatus wherein a hot melt adhesive is applied to selected portions of the cover material, a release agent is applied to the adhesive and the adhesive on the cover material is cooled. The apparatus includes a novel hot melt adhesive applicator which is adapted to break the string of adhesive stretching from the hot melt bead on the cover to the applicator nozzle. One embodiment of the unit involves an in-line arrangement in which individual covers are processed. Another embodiment involves an in-line arrangement in which web of cover material flows continuously through various operations and is then cut at the end into individual covers. Another embodiment involves an in-line arrangement in which a web of transparent cover material is incorporated in the process and combined with a web of cover material overlapping a portion of the latter.

Apparatus for manufacturing adhesive covers

Method of making a removable spiral plastic binder which is designed to be received into a channel member. The channel member is mounted to the backbone of a book cover. The removable binding, which is slidably received in the channel member, has a plurality of curled loops for retaining paper leaflets such as sheets of blank checks to the book cover. The removable binding has retaining tabs extending from a base portion below the loops. The tabs are bent such that they all lie substantially in the same plane to facilitate sliding of the binding into the channel member. The removable binding including the retaining tabs, base portion and curled loops is formed from a single, contiguous sheet of plastic material.

Method of making a spiral binder

A removable plastic binding system is disclosed including a channel member and a removable plastic binding receivable in the channel member. The channel member is mounted to the backbone of a book cover. The removable binding, which is slidably received in the channel member, has a plurality of curled loops for retaining paper leaflets such as sheets of blank checks to the book cover. The removable binding has retaining tabs extending from a base portion below the loops. The tabs are bent such that they all lie substantially in the same plane to facilitate sliding of the binding into the channel member. The removable binding including the retaining tabs, base portion and curled loops is formed from a single, contiguous sheet of plastic material.

A two-state oven type laminating apparatus including two heater systems operating at different temperatures whereby conventional polyester-polyethylene combinations may be laminated relatively bubble-free and without distortion of the polyester.

An identification card pouch is disclosed for use with a paper stock card having a photograph positioned thereon. The pouch has front and back covering leaves which are placed against the front and back surfaces of the identification card. A heat reactivatible adhesive is coated on the inside surfaces of the front and back leaves to permit lamination of the covering leaves to the identification card. A bond promoting patterned layer is arranged on the heat reactivatible adhesive on the front leaf to form treated and untreated areas. The treated areas adhere to the photograph while the untreated areas adhere to the paper card stock.

Two stage oven laminator method

A method and apparatus for permanently binding sheets of paper into a cover inexpensively and quickly is disclosed. Hot melt adhesive dots are placed near a center fold on one inside surface of a cover in alignment with pre-punched holes in paper sheets to be bound. An opposite surface of the cover is folded over and upon the dots and heat is applied causing a top of each dot to adhere to the adjacent cover surface, thus locking the paper sheets to the cover adjacent the center fold.

Hot melt adhesive dot binding

A method and apparatus for permanently binding a plurality of sheets along one edge by embedding them in a thermally activatable adhesive. The sheets are slashed in the presence of the adhesive in a manner providing contact of the adhesive with the sides as well as the edges of the sheets to be bound providing a permanent securement of each sheet. Apparatus accomplishing the binding operation is included and a novel cover marketable as a universally usable binder element is also encompassed in the invention.

Bookbinding system

A novel ring binder for securing a plurality of perforated sheets in a loose-leaf fashion, wherein the ring element is generally circular and has a generally radial slit permitting it to open for the insertion of sheets, and wherein the terminal ends of the ring are each provided with radially inwardly directed projections whereby individual sheets of bound paper are restrained against ready removal from the ring; a novel method of manufacturing such rings is also provided.
