Grip for a gem tester

A grading lamp for gemstones is disclosed. In one embodiment, the grading lamp includes a base having an open top with a bottom wall bounded by upstanding front, rear, and side walls, and a lid hinged to the rear wall for swinging between open, intermediate, and closed positions relative to the base. The lid includes an interior lamp recess having natural and ultraviolet lights behind a light diffusing filter. A tray within the open top of the base holds color reference stones and a gem under examination. In the intermediate position, the grading lamp mitigates outside ambient light and provides direct light from either the natural or ultraviolet lights.

Magnifying device

A magnifying device for jewelry and system for use of the same are disclosed. In one embodiment of the magnifying device, a securing ring is coupled to a body to selectively attach in a snap-fit engagement with a gem tester. A hinge assembly is also coupled to the body and a support frame is pivotally coupled thereto. A seat within the support frame defines a circular opening securing a magnifying lens therein. The support frame also includes a pivot blade extending therefrom that accepts rotational bearing force to cause the support frame and therefore the magnifying lens to rotate relative to the body.

A gem tester for testing a gem under test and a kit including a horizontal recharging stand are disclosed. In one embodiment of the gem tester, an elongated body has a line-of-sight contour tapering from a bulbous end to a radially deviating frontal nose having a probe extending therefrom. Internal circuitry measures electrical conductivity of the gem under test in order to identify the type of gem under test and drive a color control signal in response thereto. A light source is disposed proximate the probe in order to expose the gem under test to ultraviolet light prior to the internal circuitry measuring electrical conductivity. Identification of the gem under test may be made by audio or visual indication or a combination thereof.
