An optic for use with LED illumination sources, incorporates multiple facets in rows along its length. The facets are formed by coining (cold forming) the shapes into a suitable malleable material. By selecting the malleable material to have high heat conductivity and mounting the optic in contact with the circuit board that drives the LED, the optic serves both light dispersion and heat sink functions. Since the facets are formed with high precision they can be selected to direct light to an illuminated surface (actual or virtual). The use of multiple facet shapes (e.g. linear, radius and parabolic) the light can be reflected (multiple times if desired) to provide a highly selectable illuminated field. In the most common installation the different facets are used to uniformly illuminate a surface.

Coined optic fixture for LED illumination

A lighting fixture has a modular design. A plurality of interconnecting components fit together to impart to the lighting fixture multiple degrees of rotation. This enables the installer or user to effectively move, change, or adjust the area of illumination over time without constraints. A lamp housing is supported by a plurality of tubular arms that have a threaded connection at one end and a slip-fit connection at the other end. These connections enable the arms to be rotated independently of each other. The result is a lighting fixture having multiple degrees of rotation. An enclosed path through the tubular arms and a hinge leads from a J-box to the lamp housing. The enclosed path accommodates electrical wiring to power the lighting fixture, while the hinge enables the lamp housing to rotate about an axis parallel to the mounting surface.

A housing has a component storage cavity and an open bottom. A door covers and uncovers the open bottom. The door preferably has a latch that can be released with one hand. A window in the door transmits light from the housing. A partition divides the component storage cavity into a lamp section and a control component section. There is an opening through the partition. A removable control component mounting plate is dimensioned to cover the opening and thus become part of the control component section. A removable lamp reflector lies inside the housing behind the window. The mounting plate and reflector preferably each have a latch that can be released with one hand.

A light fixture having a base for housing a light producing source and a flat plate disposed within the base. The plate has a well formed in it, the well having light reflecting walls. A lamp socket is located in a light reflecting bottom wall of the well. A plurality of light reflecting elements is attached to the plate and a pair of light reflecting assemblies, one on either side of the well, is fixed to the plate. Each light reflecting assembly includes a plurality of light reflecting fins affixed to the plate and projecting at an angle away from the plate. A frame having a convex lens affixed thereto is hingedly attached to the base. A light shield is fixed to the frame for reducing dispersion of unwanted light.

A component carrying tray is removably mounted in a luminaire housing. The luminaire housing has a pair of thumb screws that fit in a pair of key holes shaped opening in the tray so the tray can be removed with one hand. To disengage the tray, a maintenance person simply loosens the thumb screws one quarter turn to align them with the holes, lifts the tray off the thumb screws with one hand, and then pulls the tray out of luminaire housing.

A light reflector having a row of light reflecting segments separated by fold lines, wherein one segment is located at a top of the row and another segment is located at a bottom of the row. A pair of wings is connected at the sides of the row, each one of the wings including a plurality of light reflecting segments separated by fold lines, wherein at least some of the light reflecting segments of the row and at least some of the light reflecting segments of the wings form a shell-shaped arrangement wherein at least some light reflecting segments of the row and at least some light reflecting segments of the pair of wings are bent at their respective fold lines whereby the arrangement is generally curved along an imaginary line connecting the one segment and the another segment and generally curved along an imaginary line perpendicular to the first mentioned line.

Light reflector

A hinge mechanism for a lighting assembly has a base with a slot, a shuttle guide extending from edges of the slot, a shuttle coupled with the base and capable of sliding through the slot and shuttle guide between an up position and a down position, and a link rotatably coupled to an end of the shuttle. An angle between the shuttle guide and the base is acute to allow the shuttle to easily slide into the shuttle guide. The base has a catch lip that extends from a back edge of the slot, wherein the catch lip is capable of deflecting the link slightly as the shuttle passes through the slot. Apertures in the shuttle and the shuttle guide align when the shuttle is in the up position. The link has a lip that inserts into the apertures in the shuttle and the shuttle guide to releasably hold the shuttle in the up position. The shuttle has tabs on an upper end of its back side to keep the shuttle from dislodging from the shuttle guide.

Hinge mechanism for outdoor lighting assembly

A light fixture suitable for illuminating highway signage and billboards having large surface areas. The fixture includes a curved reflector assembly, shaped generally like a cobra hood that is attached to a plate disposed in a base. The reflector assembly includes a plurality of spectral segments, integrally disposed in bands and rows of the reflector assembly so that an portion of the spectral segments is disposed above the plate, an intermediate portion of the spectral segments is disposed partially above and partially below the plate, and a portion of spectral segments is disposed below the plate surface. A lamp is supported within the fixture for facilitating projecting a substantially rectangularly shaped plane of light distributed in a plurality of substantially rectangularly shaped luminance patterns onto a flat surface. In one embodiment, an induction lighting assembly is utilized in cooperation with the reflector assembly to provide uniform surface illumination at relatively low energy usage rates. Retrofit kits, for upgrading conventional light fixtures, are provided.
