A method for re-querying for routing information is disclosed. The method transmits an initial admission query to a gatekeeper or a request for routing information and receives an admission confirmation or routing information response with a destination address. The method then tries to establish a connection with the destination address. Upon reception of a call failure message including a failure cause, the method, optionally, increments a counter and transmits a re-query to the gatekeeper or other routing entity, and the re-query includes the failure cause and, optionally, a value of the query counter.

Route re-query scheme in communication networks

To provide for interoperability of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and H.323 for Secure Realtime Transport Protocol session establishment, a transmit key is received in a first protocol from a first endpoint. The transmit key is mapped from the first protocol to a second protocol and sent in the second protocol to a second endpoint to establish a secure communication session between the first endpoint and the second endpoint.

A Voice over Packet (VoP) network includes an ingress gateway and an egress gateway for transparent transport of signaling messages between source and destination telephony switches utilizing respective source and destination telephony signaling protocols. The ingress gateway is configured for interfacing with the source telephony switch according to the source telephony signaling protocol and the egress gateway is configured for interfacing with the destination telephony switch according to the destination telephony signaling protocol. The ingress gateway and the egress gateway are configured for sharing information, based on a signaling message received by the ingress gateway from the source telephony switch, to determine a selected exchange type to be used by the ingress gateway and egress gateway in transporting the signaling message to the destination telephony switch.

Arrangement for providing ISUP transparency across voice over packet networks based on determined exchange type

An IP-based node in communication with IP-based gateway devices is configured for executing circuit selection for a prescribed trunk group having multiple sets of connected trunk groups, the multiple sets of connected trunk groups managed by the respective IP-based gateway devices. The prescribed trunk group is configured for connecting with a two-way trunk group of a switch, for example a PSTN-based switch, having substantially more circuits than any one of the multiple sets of connected trunk groups for the IP-based gateway devices. The IP-based node executes circuit selection at least based on a first message, received from one of the IP-based gateway devices via an IP connection and specifying circuit availability for at least a portion of the corresponding set of connected trunk groups. The IP-based node outputs to the one IP-based gateway device an IP-based selection message specifying a selected circuit within the corresponding set of connected trunk groups, enabling the one IP-based gateway device to select the selected circuit for communication with the switch based on the IP-based selection message.

Arrangement for managing multiple gateway trunk groups for voice over IP networks

A network node, configured for interfacing between a source network having a source telephony protocol and a packet network configured for sending and receiving data according to Internet Protocol, is configured for generating an IP based transport message for transport of normalized information describing a signaling message received from the source network according to the source telephony protocol. The network node is configured for generating a generic transparency descriptor having generic attributes for describing the signaling message. The generic attributes include a protocol name that specifies the source telephony protocol relative to a prescribed set of source telephony protocol types, and a message identifier that specifies the message type according to the source telephony protocol. Optional attributes specifying respective parameters based on the particular signaling message also may be generated. The network node outputs the transport message having the generic transparency descriptor, enabling any node receiving the transport message to determine whether signaling operations specified by the signaling message can be executed, or whether alternate operations substituting for the signaling operations can be performed based on the generic transparency descriptor.

Arrangement for protocol independent transfer of control parameters across internetworks using generic transparency descriptor objects

A resource management strategy for a network controller device such as an SVC (Switched Virtual Circuit) controller that interprets and processes call messages transported in a connection-oriented network by means of high-capacity switching devices. The call record of given call is compressed or expanded depending upon the transition in phase that a call is undergoing, if any. The strategy is applicable to both point-to-point and point-to-multi-point calls.

Call record management for high capacity switched virtual circuits

A method for sharing a call record between a first controller and a second controller is disclosed. The method comprises the step generating the call record in the first controller. For one embodiment, the call record comprises call parameters operable to establish a call connection between the first controller and a remote controller. The method also comprises the step of transferring the call record to the second controller. For one embodiment, the second controller performs as a stand-by controller and is able to take over the operations of the first controller in the event of failure of the first controller.

Method for introducing switched virtual connection call redundancy in asynchronous transfer mode networks

A method that specifies a congestion management strategy for a SVC (Switched Virtual Circuit) controller in a connection-oriented network. The rate of setup messages arriving at a given interface handled by the controller and the aggregate number of calls being established are compared against a set of thresholds to determine whether or not to allow new call setup messages from being processed. The congestion strategy regulates the consumption of controller resources such as processor load and memory utilization.
