A method of making durable, non-vitrified masonry units comprising fly ash, the method comprising mixing fly ash comprising a minimum of 15% CaO by weight and no more than about 10% loss on ignition, water, and an air entrainment agent to form a fly ash mixture; compacting the fly ash mixture in a shaping device by applying pressure of at least 1000 psi to the fly ash mixture; and curing the compacted fly ash mixture to cause the mixture to harden and gain strength.

Method to produce durable non-vitrified fly ash bricks and blocks

A device to prevent indoor release of carbon monoxide and smoke from indoor combustors (stoves, furnaces, fireplaces, etc.). The device is based on a discovery that safe operation of indoor burners requires the air pressure in the room housing the burner to be relatively high in order to prevent generation of reverse chimney flow and indoor release of exhaust gas (smoke and carbon monoxide), which are dangerous to building occupants. This device solves the problem by increasing the building internal pressure.

Method and device to prevent indoor release of carbon monoxide and smoke from combustors

This invention is directed to a method and apparatus for forming an aggregate product from particulate material, and in particular for making an aggregate coal product from coal particles. The method involves the steps of 1) loading the coal particles into a mold having an open end and an inner surface defining, in part, a pressurization chamber, the open end of the mold having an outwardly flaring inner peripheral end surface, 2) pressurizing the coal particles within the pressurization chamber such that the coal particles aggregate to form the coal log, and 3) pushing the coal log out of the mold past the flared end surface so that the coal log expands as it passes the end surface. The method may also include the step of maintaining back pressure on the coal log as it is pushed out of the mold. In addition to coal logs, the mold configuration of this invention may be used for making other aggregate products from particulate materials.

Apparatus and method for forming an aggregate product from particulate

A process for forming durable, mechanically strong compacts from feed mixtures comprising solid particles in contact with a liquid (e.g., carboniferous particles in contact with water) which does not require use of a binder is disclosed. The process comprises applying a compressive stress to the feed mixture either by compacting the feed in a mold or by extruding the feed through the die of a suitable extrusion apparatus while controlling certain process parameters, including the moisture content and the zeta potential of the particulate feed. The process can be used to form large, cylindrically-shaped compacts from coal particles (i.e., 'coal logs') so that the coal can be transported in a hydraulic coal log pipeline or by conventional means.

Process for forming coal compact without a binder

A method and apparatus for fabricating coal logs from crushed coal available at a mining site and for transporting coal logs through a pipeline to a combustion site for further coal processing and burning. The pipeline is operated to maintain the hydraulic carrier fluid flowing through the pipeline within a range of bulk velocities sufficient to force a layer of the hydraulic carrier fluid between contacting surfaces of each coal log and the pipeline, tending to lift and carry the coal log through the pipeline, and, thereby, significantly reduce the energy required to transfer the carrier fluid and the coal logs through the pipeline. The carrier fluid bulk velocity is also maintained sufficiently low to prevent unstable coal log flow behavior often resulting in coal log jamming and abasion. The range of optimum fluid bulk velocities is a function of various fluid and coal properties, the pipeline geometry and the coal log geometry.

Coal log pipeline system and method of operation

A hydraulic capsule pipelining system including a pipeline adapted for flow therethrough of water or other carrier liquid to propel cargo-containing capsules through the pipeline, and means for pumping the liquid through the pipeline utilizing a segment of length of the pipeline as a pump cyclinder and utilizing capsules passing through said pump cylinder segment of the pipeline as pistons in said segment for pumping the liquid forward through the pipeline, capsules being propelled through said segment by an externally produced electromagnetic field.

Pipeline transportation system

An injection system for injecting capsules into a hydraulic capsule pipelining system, the pipelining system comprising a pipeline adapted for flow of a carrier liquid therethrough, and capsules adapted to be transported through the pipeline by the carrier liquid flowing through the pipeline. The injection system comprises a reservoir of carrier liquid, the pipeline extending within the reservoir and extending downstream out of the reservoir, and a magazine in the reservoir for holding capsules in a series, one above another, for injection into the pipeline in the reservoir. The magazine has a lower end in communication with the pipeline in the reservoir for delivery of capsules from the magazine into the pipeline.
