A method for controlling a magnetic rail brake device of a rail vehicle, wherein the device contains at least one solenoid of a magnet rail brake, said solenoid being fed from a source of electrical energy via an electrical connection, wherein upon a magnet rail brake activation signal the electrical connection between the source of electrical energy and the at least one solenoid of the magnet rail brake is established and upon a magnet rail brake de-activation signal same is disconnected, in order to excite the at least one solenoid to generate a magnetic force or de-excite said at least one solenoid.

Operative monitoring of track brakes involves passing an electric current through a winding of a brake magnet, measuring the electric current and comparing the temporal progression of the measured current with a saved temporal progression of a reference current. Comparison is achieved by calculating the difference between the measured current and the reference current. The difference between measured current and reference current may be temporally integrated and compared with a threshold value. To determine a magnetic coupling between track brake and track, a calculation may be made as to whether the measured current has local minima and/or local maxima during the activation of the track brake, only the temporal progression of the measured current as the current increases being subjected to a comparison with the reference current. The current may be activated in pulses, with the comparison of the measured current and the reference current being restarted with each pulse.

Method for the operative monitoring of track brakes

A magnetic rail brake device includes a brake magnet with a solenoid former supporting a solenoid. A horseshoe-shaped magnet core is disposed adjacent to the solenoid former. The horseshoe-shaped magnet core includes a yoke having cheeks that project away from the yoke. Pole shoes are formed at ends of the cheeks. The solenoid includes an upper part, with an upper height and an upper width, and a lower part, with a lower height and a lower width. The solenoid is disposed between the cheeks and engages vertically around the yoke. The upper height is less than the lower height, and the upper width is greater than the lower width. The upper and lower heights are measured parallel to a vertical center axis of the brake magnet, and the upper and lower widths are measured transversely with respect to the vertical center axis.

The invention relates to a magnetic rail brake device of a railway vehicle, including a magnetic base or carrier element, and a magnetic coil which can be connected to a voltage source by means of a connecting mechanism that is on the base or carrier element and is provided with at least two electrical terminals. An end face of the connecting mechanism is disposed within an imaginary enveloping area of the base or carrier element.

A magnetic rail brake device of a rail vehicle comprises at least one braking magnet including a magnet coil body having a plurality of magnetic elements held thereon, and which magnetic elements are movable. The disclosure relates to a magnet track braking device comprising a magnetic base and/or support body and a pole shoe section containing a magnetic flow guiding area and a magnetic flow separating area. The disclosure is characterized in that the magnetic base and/or support body is made from materials having different magnetic characteristics, so that an increase in induction in the gap between the magnet track brake and the rail head is reduced when erosion occurs in the pole shoe section.
