Natural fiber-filled polyolefin composites

The present invention is directed to a composition comprising a white pigment or extended white pigment surface treated with a silane having at least one functional group capable of reacting with acids and anhydrides, at least one polymeric material and a compatibilizer. Once treated, the pigment has improved processability and dispersibility in polymeric materials. Silanizing the pigment also enhances the brightness (increase whiteness and reduce yellowness) of the pigment.

Modified silane treated pigments or fillers and compositions containing the same

The present invention relates to the silanization or surface treatment of minerals with alkylsilanes and alkylsilane copolymers. More specifically, the present invention relates to alkylsilane copolymers useful for surface treating pigments or fillers. The alkylsilane copolymers comprise at least two different monomers. The copolymers find particular utility for the surface treatment of white pigments, such as titanium dioxide, for improving the dispersibility and processibility of the pigments when compounded with a polymeric material, in particular, when compounded with polyolefins.

Treatment of minerals with alkylsilanes and alkylsilane copolymers

A laminate structure for use as a container for liquids including a structural substrate such as a paperboard which facilitates a gable top container having incorporated on its inner surface a layer of a fibrous matrix which has encapsulated or incorporated therein a finely ground divinylbenzene ethyl vinylbenzene copolymer, polystyrene divinylbenzene copolymer resin or a cyclodextrin placed on its inner surface. Additionally, the fibrous matrix may be produced as an insert and attached to the inner surface of the gable top container through the use of various items such as hot melt adhesives.

Container for the selective scavenging of citrus juice components

The specification discloses a polymer blend especially well-suited for coating paperboard substrates used in food packaging, particularly acidic or acid-generating foods such as fruit and vegetable juices. The blend contains an acid-activatable oxygen scavenger dispersed in a film-forming synthetic polymer such as an EVOH copolymer. When placed as a film or layer on the side of the substrate inside the container in contact with the food the blend is effective to reduce the oxygen in the container over time to a very low concentration, replacing the same with carbon dioxide, for an excellent preservative effect.
