A dental restoration system includes a plurality of proximal inlays of differing sizes for selection by a dentist to fit a prepared tooth cavity. In addition, a plurality of occlusal inlays is provided for covering the prepared tooth cavity and abutting the proximal inlays. In combination therewith, a curable restorative resin is provided for securing the proximal inlay in a blocking relationship with the end of a prepared tooth cavity and for securing the occlusal inlay to a bottom of the prepared tooth cavity and to the proximal inlay. The method of the present invention provides for forming a prepared tooth cavity and the utilization of curable restorative resins for providing modular-occlusal-distal (MOD) or modular-occlusal (MO) dental restorations using a modular preformed proximal and occlusal inlays to provide the usual appearance of an original natural tooth.

Dental restoration system and method

Two component adhesive formulations are described that can be mixed to form compositions containing a curable liquid resin binder and filler. The liquid resin binder comprises from about 1% to about 60% of a lower alkoxy, lower alkyl methacrylate comprising methoxyethyl methacrylate, and from about 40% to about 99% of a polyunsaturated agent selected from the group consisting of aliphatic or aromatic diacrylates or dimethacrylates or mixtures thereof, the percentages being by weight based on the liquid resin binder. The filler forms up to 80% by weight of the adhesive composition and consists of finely divided inorganic filler, finely divided organic filler that may be soluble in the liquid resin binder, and mixtures thereof. The preferred compositions are useful as orthodontic adhesives and contain from about 10% to about 50% by weight of the liquid resin binder of methoxyethyl methacrylate.

Adhesive compositions containing alkoxy alkyl acrylates or methacrylates

In an adhesive having two curable components designed to be coated in separate layers on one or more of two surfaces to be joined, and cured upon contact of the layers with each other, one component is a curable liquid primer having a viscosity of at least 800 cps but no more than about 50,000 cps at 23.degree. C., and the second component is a paste having a viscosity of at least 100,000 cps at 23.degree. C. The primer is formulated with a curable liquid monomer component of which at least 30% is an alkoxy alkyl methacrylate, any balance of curable monomer in the primer comprising monomer that is capable of copolymerizing with the first-named monomer and/or cross-linking with it. Also covers the method for joining together two irregular surfaces, utilizing such an adhesive formulation. Particularly intended for orthodontic adhesive applications.

No-mix orthodontic adhesive formulations

Improved composition for a fingernail coating having an acrylic binder, a peroxide catalyst, a tertiary amine accelerator, and a polymeric filler at least partially soluble in the coating. The acrylic binder contains a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer comprising at least a major proportion of methoxyethyl methacrylate. A polyfunctional monomer may be present that copolymerizes with the monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, for crosslinking and toughening.

Method of applying self curing artificial nails

Disclosed is a rapid setting adhesive of low toxicity having high bond strength to a variety of metals and plastics, and particularly to stainless steel, polycarbonate plastics and tooth enamel. The composition consists essentially of (A) a resin which is formed from an ester of methacrylic acid with a monoalcohol containing at least one epoxy group and (B) a filler which may be any of a plurality of finely divided materials that are insoluble in ambient fluids or a mixture of such fillers, parts (A) and (B) being present in a weight ratio such that the initial mixture at ambient temperature and pressure is a viscous liquid or paste. Also included are minor amounts of a conventional polymerization catalyst and a conventional polymerization accelerator. Preferably parts (A) and (B) are packaged separately, with polymerization catalyst included in only one package. In one embodiment of the invention, to insure thermostability at elevated temperatures, about 10 to about 80 parts by weight, per 100 parts of (A) plus (B), of an aliphatic or aromatic dimethacrylate is added as a cross-linking agent. In a preferred embodiment (A) is glycidyl methacrylate. Many variations are possible within the scope of the invention depending upon the viscosity, set time and mechanical bond strength desired for a particular end use.

Rapid setting high bond strength adhesive

Dental restorative compositions comprise self-curing systems of monomer containing two or more polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated groups of different respective reactivities, and thus of different curing rates, and other materials such as fillers, inhibitors, curing agents, and the like. The polymerizable groups may be selected from the group consisting of two or more vinyl, allyl, acryl, methacryl, and styryl groups.

Carvable dental restorative compositions

Low viscosity dental restorative coating compositions for application to natural and to artificial teeth, useful in covering surface imperfections including stains, gumline erosion, small pits, and the like. They are designed to impart to restored teeth the overall appearance of original teeth, particularly with respect to natural vitality and fluorescense, while effectively masking stains and themselves resisting discoloration from staining agents and upon aging. They are formulated to bond well, look natural, and wear well. As ready to use, a coating composition will contain from about 30% to about 70% filler by weight of the composition, in a resinous, curable liquid vehicle. The composition is formulated to be sufficiently fluid so that it can be applied to a dental surface easily and conveniently, as by brushing on a previous prepared surface, and it will flow to a featheredge. The composition nevertheless must be sufficiently viscous that dripping from the applicator, generally a brush, and dripping from the coated surface, are essentially absent. The filler is a blend of glass or silica and a fluorescent pigment. Also used are inhibitors, curing agents including peroxide catalysts and accelerators, dyes, ultraviolet absorber materials, and additives that retard settling.

Liquid paint-on dental restorative process and composition

Adhesive dental restorative composite comprising a suspension of filler fibers in a liquid polyacrylate resin composition wherein the resin has a viscosity of less than 5000 centipoise. The fibers which may be organic or inorganic generally have lengths of 1 to 100 microns and diameters which are from 1/20 to 1/5 of the lengths. An amine accelerator and a peroxide catalyst for the acrylate resin are included in the composite. The fibers comprise from 30% to 70% by weight of the composite. The referred resin formulation comprises from 25% to 90% by weight of a polyethyleneglycol diacrylate and from 10% to 75% by weight of an aromatic or alicyclic polyacrylate compound. An especially preferred composite is one wherein the resin comprises 40 parts triethyleneglycol dimethacrylate to 60 parts bisphenol-A-bis(3-methacrylato-2-hyroxypropyl) ether having suspended therein calcium silicate fibers having an average length of 5.5 microns, and in which 97% by weight of the fibers have a length less than 20 microns, and 94% a length less than 10 microns. The calcium silicate fibers comprise 55% by weight of the composite. The composite is particularly useful as a restorative for areas of erosion on teeth, especially gingival erosion in enamel.

Dental restorative compositions are described comprising a finely divided filler mixed with a resin binder that can be activated to cause it to set in situ after application to a tooth surface or within a tooth cavity. The resin binder has as its primary component the reaction product of an alicyclic diacid (or its anhydride) polyfunctional material that has been reacted to form an ester with each of two acrylate or methacrylate materials, which may be the same but that preferably are different.
