A sterilization system and process is provided which is useful in the chemical sterilization of medical supplies and equipment. The system includes a container having an internal generator of a sterilant such as chlorine dioxide. An internal container activator, such as high humidity or manual manipulation, is provided and stimulates the formation and release of the sterilant. The package includes a first indicator responsive to the release of sterilant and a second indicator which records the passage of a predetermined time interval. The combination of the sterilant indicator and the time interval indicator signals that proper sterilization conditions have been met and that the objects have been suitably sterilized.

Self-sterilizing packaging

A surgical drape is provided that is capable of forming a pocket. In particular, the surgical drape includes a fabric formed from a nonwoven layer. The nonwoven layer has a surface that includes a plurality of strands arranged on the surface with a plurality of bonds spaced about the surface. The nonwoven layer also includes a plurality of loops extending between the bonds. The surgical drape also includes at least one hook fastener that contains hooks engageable with the loops of the nonwoven layer. As a result, an edge of the fabric can be folded such that the hooks engage the loops of the fabric to form a pocket. The pocket can have one open end, two open ends, or two closed ends.

A surgical drape and surgical drape kit are provided for engaging a hook fastener to fasten the surgical drape to an object. The surgical drape includes a fabric including a nonwoven layer, the nonwoven layer having a surface including a plurality of strands. The strands are arranged on the surface with a plurality of bonds spaced about the surface and a plurality of loops extending between the bonds, the loops being engageable with the hook fastener for fastening the surgical drape to the object. The surgical drape kit may also includes a plurality of surgical drapes for use together during a surgical procedure, the loops being engageable with the hook fastener for fastening the surgical drape together.

The present invention is directed to novel absorbent surgical drapes containing at least one hydrophilic meltspun fabric layer and a liquid impervious film layer. The meltspun fabric layer may include at least one spunbonded fabric, meltblown fabric or other nonwoven fabric that is made hydrophilic. The filaments or microfibers of the spunbonded or meltblown fabrics may contain a hydrophilic additive in or on the filaments or microfibers. In one embodiment, the film of the surgical drape is breathable. In another embodiment, the film of the surgical drape has anti-slip properties, due to the inherent properties of the film or to a pattern coating of latex or hot melt adhesive on an exposed surface of the film.

Absorbent surgical drape

The present invention provides a durable, launderable hydroentangled composite that is highly suitable for skin-contacting uses. The composite is a hydrogentangled composite which is pattern bonded. The composite contains two filamentous web layers containing crimped continuous filaments and a cellulosic layer containing cellulosic fibers, and the cellulosic layer is disposed between the filamentous web layers. The composite fabric is launderable as demonstrated by the fact that the composite loses less than about 2% of its opacity, based on the initial opacity of the composite, when subjected to one laundering cycle in accordance with the ASTM 2724-87 washing and drying procedure. Additionally provided is a process for producing the composite.

Knit-like nonwoven composite fabric

A shaped nonwoven fabric comprises continuous spunbond filaments made by directly forming the spunbond filaments into a web in a single process. The fabric has an array of discrete surface features such as apertures or projections, or both. The spunbond filaments are bonded together with an adhesive polymeric component so that the shape of the fabric is retained. The fabric can be engineered to have particular fluid handling properties, strength properties, abrasive properties and aesthetic properties. Articles such as personal care products, garments, medical products and cleaning products are also disclosed.

Method for making shaped nonwoven fabric

The present invention provides a resilient absorbent foam containing starch, a superabsorbent material and a plasticizer. The absorbent foam is highly absorbent, dimensionally stable, resilient and flexible as well as biodegradable and flushable. Additionally provided is an absorbent foam comprising starch and a plasticizer, which is highly resilient and flexible. The present invention also provides an absorbent article containing the resilient absorbent foam.

Starch foams for absorbent articles

Nonwoven webs are disclosed which comprise monofilaments or fibers of a thermoplastic material. Basically, the improvement comprises the use of monofilaments or fibers which have a bilobal shaped cross-section. Nonwoven webs made according to this invention are particularly suited to be used for liners for disposable diapers as well as wraps for catamenial devices. Methods are also disclosed for producing such nonwoven webs.
