A system for testing a plurality of subsystems in a multi-car train over a train-wide communications network includes at least one master station and a plurality of slave stations interconnected by the train-wide communications network, each station collecting status and diagnostic information from associated slave subsystems and providing the information upon request. A portable test unit is provided for testing the subsystems by requesting status and diagnostics information about at least one of the plurality of slave subsystems over the communications network. A diagnostic interface is provided in the at least one master station for interfacing the portable test unit to the master station to facilitate transmission of data between the portable test unit and the train-wide communications network.

Distributed PTU interface system

Current regulation is provided for the propulsion motor of a vehicle operative with a track signal block control signal having a known frequency characteristic, by modulation of a selected group of potential output ON pulses from a chopper apparatus coupled with the motor and in relation to the program cycle time of a control microprocessor such that the resulting harmonic sidebands are positioned to minimize electromagnetic interference with that control signal.

Transit vehicle start-up propulsion motor control apparatus and method

A microprocessor controlled propulsion motor control apparatus for a passenger vehicle is provided, including a chopper apparatus having an interrupt clock to determine the frequency cycle of operation of that chopper apparatus. It is required that this frequency stay within a predetermined tolerance and not vary outside that tolerance. The output pulses from the microprocessor clock are counted between successive signals from the chopper interrupt clock in response to each occurrence of a determined operation condition of the passenger vehicle to determine that the chopper interrupt frequency is satisfactory.

Chopper frequency determination apparatus

A programmed microprocessor controller chopper apparatus for an electric motor is responsive to an operating condition of the chopper such as at least one of the commutation capacitor charge voltage and the level of motor current for determining the desired commutation circuit operation for that chopper apparatus in relation to the provision of an OFF control pulse in relation to an ON control pulse every cycle of the microprocessor program operation.
