An environmental control system for a telecom shelter integrates with a native HVAC system for exchanging interior air in a conditioned space in a machine room, telecom enclosure, or other closed machine environment by forcing or directing cooler outside air to replace interior air without active refrigeration by the native HVAC system. Primary cooling and heating of the conditioned space in the enclosure is performed by an exchange system and control logic that identifies, based on sensory input, when outside air exchange is more efficient than native AC (Air Conditioner) operation. The native AC system is suppressed or inhibited, and primary environmental control performed by fan driven exchange of outside air with air in the enclosure. Sensors and timers identify appropriate periods to defer control to the native AC system for cooling demand in excess of outside air exchange capability, and also identify ongoing suppression, or 'takeback' of cooling control from the native system when erroneous, erratic or mistaken operation results in excessive or insufficient cooling, resulting from such factors as equipment failure, operator error, and environmental/disaster occurrences.

Ventilation control apparatus and method

A ventilation system maintains a temperature for a computer equipment enclosure using a combination of air conditioning and outside (ambient) air exchange based on a graphical user interface (GUI) for setting a range of temperature at which the ventilation system maintains the temperature. Cooler temperatures allow ambient air exchange to keep the temperature sufficiently low, while air conditioning is invoked when exterior temperatures rise.

Ventilation controller for equipment enclosure

An HVAC controller for an equipment enclosure or machine room employs ambient air exchange and compressor driven cooling appliances for maintaining an operating temperature of a telecommunications machine room within acceptable levels. Coordinated engagement of the ambient air exchange and a plurality of lead/lag cooling appliances provides staged engagement of the cooling appliances to correspond to a cooling demand. Designation of lead and lag cooling appliances is alternated according to a designation interval to avoid disproportionate use of individual cooling appliances for promoting longevity. Multiple cooling appliances alternate the lead/lag designation to equalize equipment wear, and alternation of the lead/lag designation follows an normal operational satisfaction of the cooling demand, to minimize a frequency of equipment engagement (power up) cycles which contribute to wear.

A system configured to provide cooling of electronic equipment in a shelter in combination with an air conditioning (A/C) system. The system includes one or more blowers for drawing air into the shelter, a damper arrangement for controlling air exhaust. The system further includes a DC powered controller coupled to the one or more blowers, the damper arrangement, and the A/C system. The controller is configured to receive at least a first analog input signal associated with a shelter-interior temperature, a second analog input signal associated with a shelter-exterior temperature, and a plurality of alarm input signals and to generate the one or more first control signals to control blower rotational speed, the second control signal to open/close the damper arrangement, and a third control signal to inhibit/activate the A/C system based on at least the first analog input signal, or the second analog input signal, or a plurality of alarm input signals, or a combination of these.

Telecom shelter cooling and control system

A motor control circuit for controlling a motor, the circuit comprising a switched mode power supply operable to drive a full bridge switching transistor arrangement and to provide a stable voltage to the motor control circuit, wherein the switching transistor arrangement is connectable to the windings of the motor to be controlled, and wherein the switching transistor arrangement comprises: a first set of transistors in an upper part of the full bridge and a second set of transistors in a lower part of the full bridge, the first set of transistors being driven by a first output of the switched mode power supply and the second set of transistors being driven by a second output of the switched mode power supply.
