Apparatus used for manipulation of a gripped element employed in surgery, which includes two elongated arms, each of which has a distal first zone, a second zone or zones rearward of the distal first zones, and a handle from which the arms extend forwardly, the arms extending so that the first distal zones are yieldably urged toward one another by the arms to hold the gripped element therebetween, at least one of the arm second zones configured to move relative to the other arm in response to controllable force exertion between and along the arms, thereby to cause the first zones to relatively separate, enabling gripping or release of the element.

Apparatus used for manipulation of a gripped element employed in surgery, which includes two elongated lever arms, each of which has a distal first zone, and a second zone or zones rearward of distal first zone, and a handle from which the arms extend forwardly; the arms supported so that first distal zones are yieldably urged toward one another by the arms to hold the gripped element therebetween; and a pusher movable between the arms to pivot one arm relative to the other arm in response to controllable force exertion acting on the pusher, as from a location outside the arms, thereby to cause the first zones to relatively move, enabling gripping or release of the element.

In the method of distorting at least one of the anterior and posterior surfaces of the cornea so as to alter the dioptric power of the cornea to favorably alter the refraction of light rays so as to enhance image clarity, the steps include effecting multiple cuts near the corneal limbus, outwardly of the central part of the cornea; providing multiple inert protheses having tapered wedge configurations; and inserting the prostheses into cuts in wedging directions.

A method of providing an artificial lens inserted into the eye between the iris and the natural lens zone, there being eye ciliary muscles located peripherally of the zone, that includes providing the artificial lens to be compliant and to have anterior and posterior surfaces, and haptics extending away from the periphery of the artificial lens; and inserting the artificial lens to extend into position between the iris and the zone, and to cause the haptics to extend into adjacency to the ciliary muscles, and; allowing the haptics to adhere to the ciliary muscles; whereby subsequent movement of the ciliary muscles causes movement of the haptics transmitted to effect bodily movement of the lens in posterior and anterior directions to change the angularity of refraction of light passing through the lens toward the eye retina.

An improved intraocular lens forceps, including a first and second arm, the first arm has a first handle and a first lens engagement blade spaced from the first handle. The second arm has a second handle and a second lens engagement blade spaced from the second handle. The blades extend generally longitudinally in laterally spaced relation and at opposite side of a bisecting plane. The first arm has a primary section and a secondary section. The secondary arm sections extend between the first handle and first blade. The second arm has a primary section and a secondary section, the secondary arm sections extend between the second handle and second blade. The blades are movable by the handles and arm sections between closed and open positions relative to the lens. The alarm primary sections extend in cross-over relation to define a cross-over locus, when the blades are in closed position; and the secondary arm sections extend generally longitudinally in substantially parallel and elongated relation, and with spacing therebetween less than about 3 mm.
