Disclosed herein is a fuel supply system comprising a carburetor including a fuel bowl, an air induction passage including therein a venturi, a throttle valve located in the air induction passage downstream of the venturi, a fuel enrichment conduit communicating between the fuel bowl and the air induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, and a temperature responsive valve for admitting air to the fuel enrichment conduit when the ambient temperature is above a predetermined level and for admitting air to the air induction passage when the engine temperature is below the predetermined level.

Fuel enrichment system

Disclosed herein is a carburetor including a member defining an air induction passage including a downstream portion, an upstream portion, and a venturi located between the downstream portion and the upstream portion, a member defining a fuel chamber, a fuel well located in the air induction passage defining member, extending in the fuel chamber, and communicating with the fuel chamber, a high speed nozzle located in the fuel well and communicating with the venturi, and an enrichment fuel pump including a cover fixed to the fuel chamber defining member, a diaphragm located between the cover and the fuel chamber defining member and defining a fuel pumping chamber and a variable pressure chamber, a duct communicating between the variable pressure chamber and the downstream portion of the air induction passage downstream of the throttle valve, an inlet conduit communicating between the fuel chamber and the fuel pumping chamber and including an inlet check valve permitting in-flow into the fuel pumping chamber and preventing out-flow therefrom, and an outlet conduit communicating between the fuel pumping chamber and the fuel well and including an outlet check valve permitting out-flow from the fuel pumping chamber and preventing in-flow thereto.

Carburetor with enrichment fuel pump

The invention provides a fuel feed system for an internal combustion engine, the system including a fuel pump, a vapor separator including a fuel chamber having an inlet and an outlet and being adapted to contain a supply of fuel, the vapor separator including a float valve and a passage for venting fuel vapor from the chamber when the supply of fuel is below a predetermined level, and a vapor pump communicating with the passage and a source of cyclically varying pressure for pumping fuel vapor from the vapor separator and to a location remote from said source of alternating pressure, the fuel vapor pump operating independently of the fuel pump.

Disclosed herein is a marine propulsion device comprising a propulsion unit including a rotatably supported propeller, and an engine drivingly connected to said propeller and comprising an engine block, a spark timing control mechanism rotatably supported by the engine block for spark advancing and retarding movement between a minimum spark advance position and a maximum spark advance position, a throttle supported by the engine block for movement between idle and full speed positions, a control lever supported by the engine block for movement in opposite directions and adapted to be connected to an operator controlled actuating member, and a control linkage connected to the lever and to the throttle and to the spark timing control mechanism, and operative in response to control lever movement, for displacing the throttle from the idle position to a first intermediate position between the idle and the full speed positions without displacing the spark advance position, for displacing the throttle from the first intermediate position to a second intermediate position between the first intermediate position and the full speed position and for simultaneously displacing the spark timing control mechanism to the maximum spark advance position, and for thereafter displacing the throttle from the second intermediate position and toward the full speed position without displacing the spark timing control mechanism from the maximum spark advance position.

An internal combustion engine comprising a crankcase adapted to rotatably support a crankshaft having an axis, the crankcase defining a plurality of crankcase chambers and including a generally flat manifold mounting surface including therein a first series of inlet openings aligned in the direction of the crankshaft axis, and a second series of inlet openings aligned in the direction of the crankshaft axis, the first and second series being laterally offset with respect to the direction of the crankshaft axis, and each of the inlet openings of the first and second series being respectively adapted to feed air to one of the crankcase chambers and having a minor dimension parallel to the crankshaft axis, a major dimension transverse to the crankshaft axis, and a portion overlapping the inlet openings of the other of the first and second series.

An engine apparatus comprising an internal combustion engine operable throughout a range of speeds including a minimum speed, a maximum speed, a first speed between the minimum speed and the maximum speed, and a second speed between the first speed and the maximum speed, the engine including an intake zone wherein relatively low pressure is created in response to engine operation, a primary fuel delivery system for delivering fuel from a fuel source to the engine for normal engine operation, a selectively actuatable secondary fuel delivery system for delivering enrichment fuel from a fuel source to the engine, and an electrical control circuit for selectively actuating the secondary fuel delivery system only when the pressure in the zone is below a predetermined level and the speed of the engine is above the first speed and below the second speed.

Acceleration fuel enrichment system for an internal combustion engine

A fuel supply assembly including carburetors with separate throttle shafts in general axially alignment, and a U-shaped coupling for flexibly connecting the carburetor throttle shafts. The coupling includes a bight connected to a pair of legs each having a free end including a U-shaped member having a pair of arms with apertures for receiving one of the carburetor throttle shafts, each of the U-shaped members also including an arcuate bight having arcuate side portions separated by a centrally located slot communicating with the arm apertures, and also including a nut and bolt arrangement extending through the U-shaped member transverse to the throttle shaft for squeezing the arcuate side portions to reduce the opening size of the slot and arm apertures, whereby the pair of arms in each of the U-shaped members engages a separate one of the carburetor throttle shafts so that the pair of carburetor throttle shafts are flexibly coupled for common rotation.

The dual fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine has a carburetor including a fuel/air induction passage having means defining a low pressure zone and a secondary orifice and further including a cavity communicating with the fuel induction passage through the secondary orifice. A first or primary fuel supply includes a first float bowl connected to a source of a primary fuel, such as kerosene, a first float controlled valve operable to control the supply of the primary fuel to the first float bowl, a fuel nozzle for supplying the primary fuel from the first float bowl to the low pressure zone, and a conduit connecting the first float bowl in communication with the carburetor cavity. The second or secondary fuel supply includes a second float bowl communicable with the carburetor cavity and connected to a source of a second or secondary fuel, such as gasoline, and a second float controlled valve operable to control the supply of the secondary fuel to the second float bowl. In one embodiment, the carburetor includes a throttle valve located downstream of the low pressure zone and a priming fuel port located downstream of the throttle valve. A primer pump having an inlet connected in communication with the priming fuel port can be operated to selectively introduce a quantity of the secondary fuel into the induction passage to facilitate engine starting.

Disclosed herein is a fuel supply system comprising a carburetor including an air/fuel induction passage including a main supply jet and a secondary orifice, a first float bowl having an auxiliary outlet and communicating with the main jet, and a first float controlled valve communicable with a source of a first fuel and operable to control supply of the first fuel to the first float bowl, a combined auxiliary float bowl and primer comprising a housing including a second float bowl, a cavity, a duct extending between the cavity and the second float bowl, a second float controlled valve communicable with a source of a second fuel and operable to control supply of the second fuel to the second float bowl, a movable wall located in the cavity and defining a primer fuel chamber which can be varied in volume and which communicates with the duct, a handle connected to the movable wall for displacing the movable wall to vary the volume of the primer fuel chamber, a check valve in the duct permitting flow from the second float bowl and preventing return flow to the second float bowl, and an outlet communicating with the duct between the primer fuel chamber and the check valve, and a control valve connected to the secondary orifice, to the auxiliary outlet of the first float bowl, and to the outlet of the combined auxiliary float bowl and primer and including a valve member movable between a first position communicating the secondary orifice with the outlet and disconnecting the secondary orifice from the auxiliary outlet and a second position communicating the secondary orifice with the auxiliary outlet and disconnecting the secondary orifice from the outlet.

Disclosed herein is a fuel feeding device comprising a housing including a float chamber including float controlled valve communicable with a source of fuel and operable to control supply of the fuel to said float chamber, a second chamber, a duct extending between said second chamber and said float chamber for supplying fuel to said second chamber from said float chamber, a movable wall located in said second chamber and defining a primer fuel chamber which can be varied in volume and which communicates with said duct, a handle connected to said movable wall for displacing said movable wall to vary the volume of said primer fuel chamber so as to affect fuel flow to and from said primer fuel chamber, a check valve in said duct permitting fuel flow from said float chamber to said primer fuel chamber and preventing return flow to said float chamber, and an outlet communicating with said duct between said primer fuel chamber and said check valve.

Disclosed herein is a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine including a combustion chamber and an ignition switch operable between 'off' and 'on' and 'start' positions, which fuel supply system comprises a carburetor communicating with the combustion chamber, a primer fuel inlet communicating with the combustion chamber, a manually operable fuel pump connected in series with a power operated fuel pump and communicating with a source of fuel and with the carburetor, a housing defining a chamber, a movable wall located in and supported by the housing and dividing the chamber into a first sub-chamber communicating with the fuel pumps and a second sub-chamber, a spring biasing the movable wall to increase the volume of the second sub-chamber and to decrease the volume of the first sub-chamber, and a valve having an inlet communicating with the fuel pumps, an outlet communicating with the second sub-chamber and with the primer fuel inlet, and a valve member located between the inlet and the outlet, movable between open and closed positions, biased toward the closed position, and moveable to the open position in response to movement of the ignition switch to the 'start' position.
