A support assembly for a portion of a user's body includes a pivotable frame with a top elongated member, a bottom elongated member, a first side member and a second side member, the top elongated member and bottom elongated members each having first and second ends that are pivotably connected to top and bottom ends of the first side member and the second side member, respectively. A support element is operatively connected to the pivotable frame and a tensioner mechanism is adapted to adjust an amount of force required to move the support element relative to the first side member. The tension member is disposed within one of the top and the bottom elongated member and exerts a tensile force parallel to the longitudinal center axis of the one of the top and the bottom elongated member.

Mobile arm support

A dynamic hand splint including a hand support section, a sleeve configured to receive a digit therein, and a first tensioner having an elastic body and forming a loop, wherein the first tensioner is attached to the hand support section, as well as a first location of the sleeve, such that the first tensioner extends from the hand support section to the first location and a first joint of the digit. The elastic body of the first tensioner has sufficient flexural strength to resist, but not prevent, bending of the digit received within the sleeve such that, when the digit is flexed from an extended position toward a flexed position, the elastic body of the tensioner is elongated with the digit and the digit is urged by the tensioner toward the extended position.

Dynamic hand splints

An orthotic device including a forearm support section configured to be releasably attached to a user's arm, a hand support section configured to be releasably attached to the user's hand, and an adjustable joint coupled to the forearm support section and the hand support section. At least one electromyography sensor is coupled to the forearm support section and positioned to sense activity of muscles in the user's arm, at least one electrode is coupled to the forearm support section and configured to provide electrical stimulation to muscles in the user's arm, and a controller is operatively coupled to the at least one electrode, the controller being configured to deliver electrical stimulation to the at least one electrode.

Orthotic device

A hand splint includes a forearm component, a strut mounted on the forearm component, and a hand component mounted on the strut such that a spacing is defined between the hand component and the forearm component. The hand component is configured to receive the volar surface of at least one of the digits of a user's hand and may include a resilient section for generating a continuous restoring force in response to bending.

Splint assembly for positioning of the hand

A dynamic splint for the positioning and functional exercise of a neurologically impaired upper extremity, including the wrist, hand and fingers, made up of a forearm support and hand support linked by a first connector. Fingertip caps are connected to finger tension leads that extend rearwardly to connect to a finger tensioner attached to the forearm support. The hand support includes adjustable tension lead guides for directing the finger tension leads to the fingertip caps. The dynamic splint also includes a thumb splint assembly made up of a thumb-tip cap connected to a thumb tension lead that extends rearwardly to a thumb tensioner attached to the forearm support. The thumb splint assembly further includes a thumb tension lead guide for directing the thumb tension lead to the thumb-tip cap.

Dynamic hand splint

A dynamic hand splint includes as elements thereof: a forearm support section and a hand support section that are configured to be releasably attached to a forearm; and one or more finger tensioners that are releasably attached to the hand support section and that are configured to be releasably attached to a respective finger such that, when the finger is flexed from an extended position toward a flexed position, the finger is urged by the finger tensioner toward an extended position. A method includes: attaching a forearm support section and a hand support section to a forearm; attaching finger tensioners to the hand support section; and attaching each of the finger tensioners to a respective finger such that, when the finger is flexed from an extended position toward a flexed position, the finger is urged by the finger tensioner toward an extended position.

An orthotic for mounting on a user's arm comprises an upper cuff that is removeably attachable to the user's arm at a point above the elbow joint. A lower cuff is removeably attachable to the user's arm at a point below the elbow joint, and is rotationally fixed to the forearm. At least one flexible elongated member having a first end that is releasably coupled to the upper cuff and an opposite second end that is releasably coupled to the lower cuff. The upper cuff and the lower cuff are configured to move in more than one plane with respect to one another.

Orthotic device spanning elbow

A hand splint includes: a forearm component; a strut mounted on the forearm component; and a hand component mounted on the strut such that a spacing extends between the hand component and the forearm component, whereby the strut spans a wrist when the hand splint is worn. The hand component is configured to receive the volar surface of digitsthrough, the thumb, and the palm. The hand component includes a malleable section and may include a resilient section for generating a continuous restoring force in response to bending. Multiple hand pieces can be used with the same palm support platform and forearm component for progressive treatment of hand. An initial hand piece having a malleable section and a rigid bar-like portion; a second hand piece having only a malleable section; and a hand piece having both a malleable section and resilient section may be progressive used.

Dynamic splint assembly

A dynamic splint assembly for a hand includes a forearm support section configured to abut the dorsal side of a forearm and span a wrist; and a hand support section connected to the forearm support section. The hand support section is configured to abut the dorsal side of the hand including the dorsal side of the length of a finger. The hand support section comprises a resilient material that, in response to bending, such as during flexion of the finger, generates a continuous restoring force in opposition to such bending, whereby the finger in flexion is urged toward extension. The forearm support section, in contrast, does not generate, in response to bending, a continuous restoring force in opposition to such bending, whereby a wrist may be selectively oriented in one of many fixed dispositions having varying degrees of flexion and extension relative to a forearm.

Dynamic resting hand splint

A magnetic writing instrument designed to allow people with hand tremors to write and draw with increased clarity. Consisting of a stylus attached to a base at an appropriate writing angle. The base houses a magnet and accommodates three caps of varying thickness to match the resistance needed with the users tremors. There is also a metal writing base that interacts with the magnet. The paper or writing stationary is placed between the metal writing base and the writing instrument.

Magnetic writing apparatus

The upper extremity exercise apparatus is a device intended to be used by humans to exercise their upper extremity. The apparatus exercises the upper limb in multiple planes in gravity assisted, gravity eliminated, and against gravity positions. It can be used in a standing, sitting, or lying position. The exercise apparatus consists of a long tubular structure generally made from plastic. A short movable sleeve, generally made from plastic, surrounds the long tubular structure. The movable sleeve has a slightly bigger inner diameter than the tubular structure's outer diameter. The difference in size allows the movable sleeve to migrate freely along the length of the apparatus. To operate the apparatus, the user positions his or her hand onto the movable sleeve. One hand stabilizes the apparatus while the other hand smoothly moves the sleeve in multiple planes.
