A wedge connector assembly including an installation tool having a tool body and a frame connected to the tool body. A sleeve is received by the frame and a wedge is received by the sleeve. A firing mechanism is movably connected to the tool body. A movable ram extends from the tool body into the frame such that movement of the ram drives the wedge into the sleeve when the installation tool is fired. A piston is movably disposed in the tool body between the ram and the firing mechanism. The piston is moved when the firing mechanism is activated, thereby driving the wedge into the sleeve. An indicator disposed on the ram indicates when the installation tool is in a proper firing position to substantially prevent over-torquing the installation tool.

Methods of connecting cables with an installation tool

A high pressure tool assembly includes a tool and a hand control valve connected to the tool. A hydraulic manifold is fluidly connected to the hand control valve. An intensifier is fluidly connected to the hydraulic manifold and to the tool. The intensifier increases the pressure of a first operating fluid supplied to the tool. A first fluid circuit is formed between the hand control valve, the hydraulic manifold and the intensifier. The first fluid circuit operates at a first pressure. A second fluid circuit is formed between the intensifier and the tool and operates at a second pressure. The second pressure is larger than the first pressure. The second fluid circuit is isolated from the first fluid circuit.

A high pressure tool assembly includes a hand control valve mechanically connectable to a tool. An intensifier is fluidly connected to the hand control valve and to the tool. The intensifier increases pressure of an operating fluid to be supplied to the tool. A first fluid circuit conveying the first operating fluid is formed between the intensifier and the tool. A second fluid circuit conveying a second operating fluid is formed between the hand control valve and the intensifier. The first fluid circuit operates at a first pressure. The second fluid circuit operates at a second pressure. The first pressure is higher than the second pressure. The first fluid circuit is isolated from the second fluid circuit.

A base assembly removably and adjustably receives a tool and includes a base and a wall extending outwardly from the base. First and second openings are disposed in the wall. First and second cutouts are disposed in the wall to receive the tool. A pivot pin is removably received by the first and second openings. The tool is removably disposed on the pivot pin. A locking ring is disposed on the pivot pin. The locking ring is in a locked position to prevent movement of the pivot pin and in an unlocked position to allow movement of the pivot pin, thereby allowing the tool to be easily moved between positions and securely locked in a desired position.
