A device for the external cooling of the electrical drive motor of a centrifugal pump unit, which with the motor is advantageously to be assembled above the centrifugal pump, comprises a hermetically closed hollow body of heat-conducting material which circumferentially at least partly surrounds the motor and which with its wall surface on the motor side and on the pump side is in heat-conducting surface contact with the motor and the centrifugal pump, wherein the hollow body is essentially filled with a fluid which transfers the motor heat and which, with a heated motor, is subject to a natural circular convection flow.

In a method in the operation of a firing plant of the type comprising a combustion furnace and heat exchanger means to transfer thermal energy from the flue gas of the furnace to its combustion air, wherein a vaporizable liquid, such as water, is added to the combustion air of the furnace, the combustion air pressure is reduced in the portion of the heat exchanger means where the said liquid is caused to evaporate, the necessary evaporation heat being taken from the flue gas of the furnace before the flue gas is discharged to the atmosphere. A plant for performing the method is characterized by containing a pump (11) which has a relatively small inlet opening (10) so that the pump (11) creates a negative pressure in the portion (12) of the heat exchanger (9) where the liquid, fed by means of a nozzle (13), evaporates. This allows large amounts of water to evaporate, and flue gas, which flows through the heat exchanger portion (14), is cooled to a low temperature. The flue gas will then condense, and this procedure is accelerated by the constriction (at 16) of the flue (15) so that there is a positive pressure in the heat exchanger portion (14). According to the heat pump principle, the advantages are an unprecented low temperature level and humidity content of the discharged flue gas and a correspondingly high efficiency of the firing plant.

This invention concerns a self-tightening friction drive device for the conversion of a rotary motion into an axial motion. The device comprises two or more ball bearing jaws retained in angularly spaced position around a shaft, each of the jaws having at least one recess for receiving and supporting a respective ball bearing or roller bearing of larger internal diameter than the external diameter of the shaft extending through the bearings and engaging with the inner rings thereof an inclined angle. Each of the recesses presents in a section perpendicular to the axis of the respective bearing a curve whose radii of curvature are greater than the outer radius of the bearing. In consequence of the inclined position of the bearings relative to the shaft, the bearings will be wedged between the shaft and the bottom of the recesses in response to an axial load on the shaft and will exert an increased pressure against the shaft in response to an increased axial load on the shaft, the pressure being greater when the effective wedge angle is small. The invention further comprises control means adapted to pivot a jaw about a line parallel to the shaft and not merging with the axis of curvature of the supporting recesses, whereby the wedge angle can be controlled in addition to the effect of the actual shape of the recesses.

This invention concerns an apparatus for the conversion of a rotary motion into an axial motion, said apparatus comprising a number of rolling bearings having larger inner diameter than the outer diameter of a shaft, which extends through the bearings in such a manner that the bearings exert radial forces on the shaft, the vectorial sum of said forces being equal to zero. Each bearing is supported in a recess in one of two or more jaws, said recesses being arranged so that the axis of each bearing is inclined relatively to the axis of the shaft in such a way that each bearing will roll along a helical line on the surface of the shaft. The jaws are totated in common and the jaws are provided with clamping means adapted for increasing the radial forces against the shaft in response to the axial load on the shaft.
