A portable electronic device comprises a proximity-sensing user interface and a controller. The proximity-sensing user interface is configured to capture position information and distance information. The controller is coupled to the proximity-sensing user interface and is configured to process first distance information () captured by the proximity-sensing user interface during a pre-determined touch action, to determine whether a material layer () is interposed between the user's skin and the proximity-sensing user interface. The controller is configured to selectively set an input mode from a first input mode to a second input mode when the first distance information indicates that no material layer () is interposed between the user's skin and the proximity-sensing user interface.

Portable electronic device and method of controlling a portable electronic device having a proximity-sensing user interface

A portable electronic device includes a display, a user input device, and a controller that is coupled to the display and the user input device, and that is configured to execute an application program. The device further includes a user input management unit that is configured to receive an input string of characters from the user input device, configured to retrieve a bookmark list containing content identifiers that have been pre-stored by a user, configured to compare the input string to the content identifiers in the bookmark list, and configured to display a selection list on the display including a subset of the content identifiers in the bookmark list that match the input string.

Communication terminals and methods with rapid input string matching

A method for enabling direct provision of a message handling area at a server of a messaging service provider is provided. The method includes associating, in the portable communication device, a first user input unit with a function to be used for connecting to the messaging service provider, sending a request, in dependence of a user actuating the first user input unit, to the messaging service provider to set up a message handling area for the user, receiving an identifier from the messaging service provider, which identifier identifies a message handling area created for the user, as well as login data for logging into the area, and associating a second user input unit with a function of accessing the message handling area, which when selected by the user, allows the user to directly access the message handling area.

Operating a mobile terminal may include providing a list in memory of the mobile terminal with the list including at least one identification of a communications device remote from the mobile terminal. An update for the list may be received from outside the mobile terminal over a wireless link, and the list may be automatically updated in the memory of the mobile terminal after receiving the update from outside the mobile terminal. A device may receive personal data that is collected at a client device, obtain a network address of a media device from the client device, send the network address to an advertisement device, and send the personal data to the advertisement device. The advertisement device may retrieve advertisements based on the personal data and send the retrieved advertisements to the media device.
