A radio device () is configured with multiple applications. For each of the multiple applications, the radio device () determines at least one characteristic of traffic generated by the application. In response to one of the applications requiring establishment of a connection of the radio device () to the cellular radio network, the radio device () sends a request () for establishing the connection to the cellular radio network, the request () indicates the at least one characteristic corresponding to the application.

Traffic characteristic indication for connection establishment control

A method in a legacy access node for selecting a suitable RAN, of a plurality of RANs for a LTE UE, capable of both PS and CS sessions in a global communication network. The method comprises connecting the UE to a legacy RAN via a radio interface module and then establishing a PS session with the connected UE. The bandwidth that the UE currently is consuming is monitored and compared with a predefined bandwidth threshold. If the consumed bandwidth exceeds the predefined bandwidth threshold an attempt will be made to trigger transferring of the UE from the current legacy RAN to the LTE RAN. A corresponding method is disclosed in a eNodeB where the attempt to trigger transferring of the UE from the LTE RAN to the legacy RAN is made if the consumed bandwidth falls below the predefined threshold. Related legacy access nodes and eNodeBs perform the methods.

Methods and apparatuses in communication systems

A network node () of a first radio access network is configured to transfer a user equipment () from the first radio access network to a second radio access network, wherein the second radio access network has a different radio access technology, RAT, than the first radio access network. The transfer is initiated when the network node receives an indication of an inactive period in an ongoing packet-switched data session from the user equipment, and the network node transfers the user equipment to the second radio access network as a result of said indication.

Methods and arrangements for handling shortcomings when a wireless user terminal (), currently using a first connection (2:1) with a first network node (), is redirected to a second connection in a release-with-redirect process. The connection first network node sends a first redirect message (2:2) to the terminal with an instruction to attach to the second connection. The terminal then sends a message (2:5) to the first network node which comprises a failure indication indicating that the terminal has made a failed attempt (2:3) to attach to the second connection. The first network node then identifies (2:6) a cause for the failed attempt by using the failure indication. The first network node also performs at least one of: sending (2:7) a second redirect message to the terminal based on the identified cause, and providing (2:9) the identified cause to a network management function, to enable adaptation of the release-with-redirect process.

Method and arrangement for redirection of terminal

Network nodes in a source and a target communication system, and methods therein for supporting hand over to the target communication system, of a mobile terminal supporting Packet Switched-to-Circuit Switched, PS-to-CS, hand over. The method in the source communication system comprises, when requesting resources for hand over of a mobile terminal engaged in a conversational call to a target node in the target communication system, signaling a first request for PS resources to the target communication system, indicating a bearer B, used for the conversational call, and further signaling a second request for CS resources to the target communication system, indicating the bearer B. Thereby, the target communication system is enabled to decide whether a PS-to-CS HO or a PSHO of the bearer B should be performed.

Method and arrangement for supporting hand over of a mobile terminal

A base station generates and sends measurement configuration to a wireless terminal. The measurement configuration indicates the measurements to be made by the wireless terminals and to report on the performed measurements to the base station. The measurement configuration indicates that the measurements are to be performed and to be reported based on a prioritization level. The prioritization can be indicated at various levels including the measurement identities level, the measurement objects level, and the reporting configurations level.

A method in a first network node for handling a GBR bearer is provided. The first network node is comprised in a communications system. The first network node allocates () to a user equipment, a GBR bearer for a data transmission. A first timer in the first network node is started (), when scheduling data for the data transmission on the GBR bearer is interrupted. Method and arrangement in a communications system for handling a GBR bearer

A node () of a communications network proposes an inactivity timer parameter for a radio access network bearer. The inactivity timer parameter indicates for how much time the bearer may be inactive for a session or a connection while the bearer is still allocated resources of the radio access network. The node proposes the inactivity timer parameter in dependence upon a service characteristic or a subscription characteristic for the session or the connection.
