A method and server for establishing a push to talk type service such as push to talk over cellular (PoC). The server receives a message from Client A indicating one or more media types that Client A will accept in defined circumstances in a push to talk type session. When the server receives a message from Client B inviting Client A to establish a push to talk type session for one or more proposed media types, the server determines whether the media type(s) proposed by Client B are acceptable to Client A. If at least one proposed media type is acceptable, the server forwards the invitation to Client A with a list of the acceptable media types. Thereafter the session is established.

Apparatus and method providing push to talk over cellular (PoC) dynamic service options

A method and arrangement for authorizing an initially unauthorized watching client to receive client data of an observed client from a client data server. The watching client sends an expanded request for client data to the server. The expanded request contains additional information such as a text string, a picture, or a video/audio clip. The server extracts the additional information and sends it to the observed client. The observed client can then decide whether to authorize the watching client to receive the observed client's data based on the additional information.

Method and arrangement for handling client data

A method of handling Invite messages for a multi-user communication session utilizing the IP Multimedia Subsystem to set up and control the session. Two or more access servers control user access. A first access server receives from a session-initiating user, an Invite that identifies as a potential participant, at least one user group which is owned by a second access server. The first access server sends to the second access server, an Invite that identifies the user group. The second server resolves the group identification into a set of group member identities and sends the identities in a response to the first access server. The first access server then sends Invites to at least some of the group members identified in the response.

A method and apparatus for processing a floor request in a push to talk type service in which a floor is required for a first terminal to distribute media to a second terminal. The first terminal sends a floor request message to a PoC Server. The message relates to at least two different types of media content and indicates how and to what extent the granting or denial of the different media types interrelate. The message may indicate, for example, that if a first media type is denied, the others should be denied; or that the granting or denial of the first media type should not affect the other media types. The message may also indicate other conditions and relationships. The PoC Server processes the request based on the indicated interrelationships and/or conditions, and grants or denies each media type.

A method for use in a push to talk type service in which a floor is required before a client terminal may distribute a media item to at least one other terminal participating with the client terminal in a push to talk type session. According to the invention, the floor is managed depending upon information relating to the size of the media item, and may be managed depending upon other criteria as well. Managing the floor may include one or more of granting the floor, maintaining the floor, monitoring the floor, and releasing the floor. The floor may be denied, for example, if the media item is larger than a predetermined size, which size may be indicated as being within a range of sizes. The push to talk type service may be a general conferencing service.

A method and apparatus for performing a service negotiation between a mobile terminal and a server offering mobile services. A service request is received from the mobile terminal including a list of requested services, which is compared with a set of available services that the server can provide. It is then determined which services that were requested but are not available and cannot be provided by the server. A delta list is finally transmitted to the mobile terminal comprising the services not available, such that the mobile terminal can determine which services that can be used. A pre-defined tree structure is preferably used for specifying services in the service request and delta lists such that a single root node specifies all services in nodes subordinated to the root node. In this way, the amount of exchanged information and processing in the mobile terminal are reduced.
