A head-up display system includes housing, a combiner to display information in an operating position and a cover to protect the combiner. The combiner moves between the operating position and a storage position. The cover moves between an open position and a closed position to protect the combiner in its storage position with the cover in its closed position. The system includes a drive to move the cover between its open and closed positions. The drive includes a main lever and a support lever that is pivoted with a moving end to the main lever and with a fixed end to the housing. The main lever is pivoted with a cover end to the cover and with a driver end to a rotational drive to drive an essential linear movement of the cover end of the main lever during the movement of the cover between its open and closed positions.

A combiner positioning system for a head-up display includes a carrier and a camwheel. The carrier supports a combiner for the head-up display, and the combiner is movable between a stowed position and a display position. The camwheel is rotatable about a camwheel axis. The rotation of the camwheel about the camwheel axis engages the carrier and moves the combiner between the stowed position and the display position.

Combiner positioning system

A head up display (HUD) system includes a housing, a display assembly, and a mechanical guide system. The housing contains optical and electronic components that support a head up display function. The display assembly is captured by the housing. The display assembly has a display element for conveying head-up display information and a carrier that structurally supports the display element. The mechanical guide system moves and guide the display assembly to an in-use position, a storage position, and a service position. When in the service position, the display assembly is removable from the housing without disassembly of the housing. When not in said service position, the display assembly can be movable between an in-use position (in which the display element is substantially exposed outside the housing but is physically secured by the housing) and a storage position (in which the display assembly is substantially enclosed and protected by the housing).

A guide for guiding a magnetic data storage tape has a curved support portion for supporting a major tape surface and at least one flange adjoining the support portion. At least in a region of transition between the support portion and the at least one flange, the guide has an under coating of a diamond like carbon material, tungsten carbide, or similarly wear resistant material, and a surface coating having lower surface tension than the under coating. A recording and/or reproducing apparatus which accepts two different sizes of magnetic-tape cassettes each having two juxtaposed reels comprises four drive means mounted stationarily in the apparatus and each comprising a reel spindle and a reel disc. A capstan drive tape recorder having a pressure roller on an arm which is pivotable to hold the tape against the capstan. To move the arm between the operating and a rest position, the arm is connected by a spring to a lever, the arm and lever being pivotable about the same axis. An actuating device moves the lever to bring the pressure roller into engagement with a tape against the capstan. In moving the arm, the lever is first pivoted about one axis, and then about a second axis so that the mechanical advantage of the lever is changed between a ratio which moves the roller a considerable distance, and a ratio which biases the roller against the capstan.
