A method and system for acquiring data from a pixelated image sensor for detecting charged particles. The method includes reading a pixel voltage of one or more of the multiple pixels multiple times without resetting the image sensor and digitizing the pixel into a first number of bits. The camera outputs a digitized compressed pixel voltage in a second, less, number of bits. The maximum range of the digitized compressed pixel voltage is less than a maximum range of the pixel voltage.

Method and system for high speed signal processing

A magnetic resonance (MR) coil array () connected by way of a single transmission line () is provided. The MR coil array () includes a coil element () and a corresponding coil element circuit (). The coil element circuit () includes at least one active component () powered by a power signal carried on the coaxial transmission line (). The voltage of the power signal varies between first and second direct current (DC) voltages of the same polarity. The coil element circuit () further includes a tune/detune circuit () connected to the coaxial transmission line (). The tune/detune circuit () tunes or detunes the coil element () based on the first and second DC voltages. An MR system () using the MR coil array () and a method () for tuning or detuning the MR coil () are also provided. Accordingly, a single coaxial cable between the MR system and the coil element is sufficient for conveying MR data, a power signal for the preamplifier and a detuning signal. Moreover, the preamplifier can be powered irrespective of the coil element being in the tuned or in the detuned state.

Single coaxial interface for magnetic resonace (MR) coils

A method of using a charged particle microscope comprising a source; a specimen holder, for holding a specimen; an illuminator, for irradiating the specimen; a detector; and a controller, for controlling at least some aspects of the microscope's operation. The method comprises the steps of using the detector to acquire a series of component images of a part of the specimen; then successively quantizing each component image and storing it in a memory; recording a quantization error per pixel for each quantized component image, and keeping a running tally of cumulative quantization errors per pixel for the quantized component images; when quantizing a next component image, choosing a quantization polarity for each pixel that will avoid further increasing the total quantization error for each pixel. Finally, combining the component images to assemble a composite image.

Innovative image processing in charged particle microscopy

A diagnostic imaging system includes a first controller that detects any unsafe or dangerous conditions in a diagnostic scanner and generates safety/emergency data indicative of the unsafe or dangerous conditions. A communication unit generates a safety/emergency signal from the safety/emergency data using a digital protocol and communicates the safety/emergency over a local digital network.
