A method applicable for use in wheeled vehicles permits correction of a vehicle reference speed following a real or apparent deceleration indicated by wheel speed signals, caused for example by a fault in wheel sensing. In order to prevent a brief period of insufficient braking of the vehicle due to an erroneously high vehicle reference speed during a subsequent ABS regulation, wheel slip regulating signals are monitored. If a wheel slip regulating signal appears for a given number of wheels and lasts for a longer period than a predetermined time, an intervention in the normal regulating process is made, and the vehicle reference speed is set to the value of the wheel speed of the wheels associated with a wheel slip regulating signal.

Method for correcting a vehicle reference speed

A wheel module for the control of the braking force on a wheel of a vehicle with an electrically controlled braking system (EBS), in which the need for data transfer to other wheel modules, or to a central module, if present, is reduced considerably. All magnitudes required for an ABS regulation of a wheel such as, for example, vehicle reference speed, are calculated directly in the wheel module according to the invention, so that these magnitudes need not be transmitted from a central module via a data bus.

Wheel module for a vehicle with an electrically controlled braking system (EBS)

A signal (S) has a value at every point in time. The values may change in time and may lie within or outside a predetermined basic value range (BVMIN, BVMAX). The signal (S) is processed so that control steps associated with the values of the signal (S) are carried out when certain values of the signal (S) occur outside the basic value range (BVMIN, BVMAX). It may then occur that the carrying out of the control steps may be triggered in an undesirable manner because of implausible values of the signal (S). Such an implausible signal behavior must be recognized rapidly and the undesirable effects of the implausible signal behavior must be decreased or totally prevented at an early moment. For this purpose a value of the signal (S) occurring with relative frequency is determined as a dominant value (DV) as well as a frequency value (FV), which indicates frequency of occurrence of values of the signal (S) situated in the vicinity of the dominant value (DV). The execution of the control steps associated with the given values of signal (S) is then in addition rendered dependent on the magnitude of the deviation of the dominant value (DV) from the basic value range (BVMIN, BVMAX) when the frequency value (FV) reaches at least a predetermined magnitude (F1, F2). A preferred area of application of the invention is electronic control and regulating systems in vehicles.

Method for signal processing in a control system of motor vehicles

A process for the verification of an antilock braking system (ABS) in a vehicle to check for correct connection of the component wheel sensors (3, 4, 17, 18, 19, 20), braking pressure modulators (7, 9, 12), and brake cylinders (5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 14) is proposed. The method can be used in a new installation of the ABS or when resuming operation after repair of the system. In a first step, the user causes a single sensed wheel to rotate. This actuates a testing mode in the ABS electronic controller (8). The electronic controller (8) then actuates the modulator belonging to the rotated wheel. From the response of the sensed wheel and/or the actuated modulator, the user recognizes whether the matching between the sensor of the rotated wheel and the actuated modulator is correct. This procedure is then repeated with the other sensed wheels.

Method for the verification of electrical connections for an antilock

An automatic control logic for an anti-lock protected vehicle braking plants is provided for all-terrain operation. In this case, the standard automatic control logic for road operation is switched, by the driver with an all-terrain switch (13) to a special automatic control logic for all-terrain operation. The special automatic control logic generates time periods, during which a short-term blocking of the automatically controlled wheels (12) is intentionally permitted. The locking time periods have a time duration of about 240 ms. The braking distance of the vehicle in cross-country terrain is shortened while a sufficient cornering force remains based on the all-terrain automatic control logic.

Control logic for an anti-lock vehicle brake system

An anti-lock braking system for a two-axle all-wheel drive vehicle having two intra-axle differentials and an engageable central inter-axle differential comprises a wheel sensor associated with each of the wheels for determining the rotational behavior of each of the wheels, and a four-channel electronic control circuit for providing individual wheel regulation. The electronic control circuit also detects whether the central differential is engaged or not and whether a malfunction has occurred in one of the channels. If one of the regulating channels has a malfunction and the central differential is not engaged, the electronic control circuit switches off regulation only in the malfunctioning channel. If, however, the central differential is engaged when a malfunction in one of the regulating channels has occurred, then the electronic control circuit switches off both the malfunctioning channel as well as an intact channel associated with a diagonally opposite wheel.
