The invention relates to a composition preparation method for preparing a composition of estolides, the method comprising reacting an unsaturated compound of a type such as an acid or ester, with a saturated fatty acid; in the presence of a catalyst of a type such as sulphonic acid, the said method including no vacuum distillation step thereby making it possible to separate the monoestolides from the polyestolides. The invention also relates to a composition of estolides that is obtainable by the method according to the invention and the use thereof in lubricating compositions.

The present invention relates to the biosynthesis of &#x3b1;-olefins. In particular, the invention provides methods for the production of medium-chain &#x3b1;-olefins, more particularly C&#x3b1;-olefins, using a polypeptide with decarboxylase activity on free fatty acids with 8 to 14 carbons, in particular on C-C1free fatty acids, more particularly on Cfree fatty acids, or a genetically engineered host cell expressing or overexpressing said polypeptide.

These compositions comprise at least one compound (A) and at least one compound (B) containing electron enriched or depleted olefinic double bonds, respectively.
