Systems and methods for operating an imaging system to perform Cephalometric imaging. The imaging system includes a column, an upper shelf pivotably coupled to the column, a rotating part coupled to the upper shelf and linearly translatable along a length of the upper shelf in a direction radial to the column, a first x-ray source coupled to the rotating part, and an x-ray detector coupled to the rotating part on an opposite side of a first imaging volume from the first x-ray source. A center position of the Cephalometric patient support is determined relative to the imaging system in at least two dimensions by scanning the imaging volume while adjusting a pivot angle of the upper shelf and by scanning the imaging volume while adjusting a linear position of the rotating part along the upper shelf.

Calibrating an X-ray medical imaging device for cephalometric imaging

The invention relates to a method and system for determining a sharp panoramic image constructed from a group of projection images, especially the invention relates to defining a structure of the panoramic X-ray image of an area of a dentition and of jaws. The structure of a panoramic image to be generated from a group of projection images is determined by at least two crucial parameters, namely parameters of the central surface S of the sharp layer and thickness t(s) of the sharp layer, using penalty function F(S,t), which is at least a penalty function F(S,t) of low-frequency changes in the computed panoramic image corresponding to the choices S and t(S). After computing F(S,t) the best center surface and thickness function (in other words the sharpest layer of the panoramic image) is obtained by minimizing said penalty function F(S,t) over parameter space.

Method and system for determining a sharp panoramic image constructed from a group of projection images

The invention relates to a method, system and computer software product for detecting a fiducial in digital projection images, particularly for detecting a fiducial in digital X-ray images automatically, without any operations required of the user. The invention for detecting the image of a fiducial positioned in a digital projection image is characterized in that for at least part of the digital projection image pixels, there is calculated a direction of the intensity gradient; there is defined a region of the projection image, on the basis of the directions of the intensity gradients, where the direction of the intensity gradient is changed according to predetermined limits; and there is defined a matching rate for how well the model describing the image of the predetermined fiducial matches the defined region.
