The subject of the invention is a process for the continuous manufacture of an austenitic stainless steel strip having a dull surface appearance, consisting in subjecting an austenitic stainless steel strip to a heat treatment in a bright annealing furnace inside which an inert or reducing flushing gas circulates, which gas has a dew point above &#x2212;15&#xb0; C., and then in pickling the strip using a suitable acid pickling solution.
