An electrical assembly of a downhole tool utilized within a wellbore extending into a subterranean formation. The electrical assembly includes a housing substantially formed of thermoplastic material, an electronic device sealed within the housing, and an electrode or sensor sealingly embedded within a wall of the housing and electrically connected with the electronic device.

Encapsulated sensors and electronics

Systems and methods for reducing torque on a rotating downhole logging tool are provided. In one embodiment, a downhole logging tool is provided. The downhole logging tool may include a support element, which may include a hollow cavity. The support element may be configured to rotate about an axis when the support element is inserted in a well, and the hollow cavity may be configured to permit fluid flow through the support element when the support element is in the well. Furthermore, the downhole logging tool may include a first fairing portion, which may include a first sensor to obtain measurements in the well. Additionally, the first fairing portion may be configured to form a revolution surface associated with a portion of the support element.

Rotating downhole logging tool with reduced torque

A rotary drill bit is provided comprising a bit body, which includes a connecting portion for connection to a conveyance and a drilling portion. The drilling portion includes a plurality of cutting elements each having at least one cutting surface, the drilling portion being operable in at least two different drilling orientations, and the drilling surface being rotatable in one of two opposing directions, being a first direction and an opposing second direction.

Adjustable drill bit

A drilling system and method are provided. The drilling system comprising a tool body, a drill bit, a mechanism for applying weight to the drill bit ('WOB'), and a control system for controlling the rate of rotation of the drill bit ('RPM') and the weight applied to the bit during drilling. The control system is configurable to a first mode in which RPM and WOB are controlled to maintain power on the drill bit at a predetermined maximum, and a second mode in which RPM and WOB are controlled to maintain a predetermined depth of cut (&#x201c;DOC&#x201d;). In use, the control system is adapted to switch between the first and second modes depending on drilling conditions.

Methods of drilling with a downhole drilling machine

A spooling apparatus for use with a well intervention system. The spooling apparatus comprises a pressure vessel capable of being maintained at the same pressure as the well, a flexible line housed in the pressure vessel such that it can be spooled into or out of the pressure vessel, and guidance means directing the flexible line to the outlet. The guidance means is arranged so as to decouple the angle of the flexible line to the outlet from the windings of the flexible line in the pressure vessel. Moreover, the apparatus can be incorporated into wellhead equipment.

Spooling apparatus for well intervention system

Apparatus and a method for deploying a wireline tool in a borehole. The apparatus comprises a wireline cable which is connected at a first end at the surface and is releasably connected at a second end to a first end of an umbilical cable via a first connection means. A second end of the umbilical cable is releasably connected to the logging head of a wireline tool via a first latching means, wherein the logging head provides for mechanical and electrical connection between the wireline tool and the wireline cable via the umbilical cable. The umbilical cable is surrounded by umbilical pipe downhole, and the logging head also provides for mechanical and hydraulic connection between the umbilical pipe and the wireline tool. The wireline tool is releasable from connection with the umbilical cable by a release means in the first latching means, and is capable of being pulled through the first latching means and through the umbilical pipe so that it is retrievable from the borehole.

Deployment of a wireline tool

A drilling system for drilling a borehole in an underground formation, comprises a rotary drill bit, a drilling drive mechanism that is capable of applying both rotating the drill bit and applying an axial force to the drill bit, and a control system that is capable of controlling the drive mechanism so as to control rotation of the drill bit and the axial force applied to the drill bit in order to control the depth of cut created by the drill bit when drilling through the formation. A method of drilling a borehole in an underground formation with a rotary drill bit, comprises applying rotation and an axial force to the drill bit and controlling the rotation and axial force so as to control the depth of cut created by the drill bit when drilling through the formation.

Drilling system

A drilling system, comprising a non-rotating conveyance system; a tool connected to the non-rotating conveyance system and including anchors by which the tool can be anchored in position when located in a borehole; a drill bit connected to the tool; a motor for rotating the drill bit; and a directional control system interposed between the tool and the drill bit; wherein, in use, whit the drilling system located in a borehole, the directional control system can be operates so as to displace the drill bit away from the axis of the borehole.
